Mr. John P. Sorenson

John P. Sorenson, 80, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed from this life Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at his home. Born on Christmas Day of 1945 in Superior, Wisconsin, he was the beloved son of Olaf and Kathryn Preston Sorenson.

He married Beverly A. Britton on September 11, 1976; she preceded him in death on August 16, 2019.

John's legacy is carried on by his devoted family, including his children, Jeff Gibson of Nashville, TN, Jackie Ayers (Tim Jordan), Candice Sorenson, and Christa Sorenson, all of Columbus. He took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to Christopher Ayers, Daniel (Claire) Ayers, Greg Gibson, Kenzie Gibson, and was especially proud of his great-grandsons, Preston and Parker Ayers. John's sister, Nancy Dodd of Clinton Township, Michigan; nephew, Jack (Ida) Dodd of Dryden, Michigan; niece, Kathy (John) Merecki of Sterling Heights, Michigan; great-nephews, Jack and Joe; and great-niece Courtney, also survive him and will fondly remember his guiding presence. Also, Mike Ayers, whom John counted among his own children.

He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Jack Dodd.

Before retirement, John was a skilled auto mechanic, a craft he both loved and excelled at. He was proud to have served his country as a Navy Veteran during the Vietnam War, a time that honed his resilience and deepened his patriotism. Throughout his life, John pursued his passions with vigor, which included target shooting, go-kart racing, painting, and the careful assembly of model cars-a meticulous hobby that reflected his attention to detail and patience.

As we say goodbye to John P. Sorenson, we celebrate a life lived fully and with intention. The world is a better place for his having been in it, and the memory of his indomitable spirit will remain in our hearts forever.

In keeping with Mr. Sorenson's wishes, cremation will take place.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date, with his cremated remains laid to rest next to

his late wife at the Garland Brook Cemetery.

Military Honors will be provided by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
