Nancy Joan Yates, 82, of Bloomington and formerly of Onarga passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at home surrounded by loved ones at Bickford of Bloomington. She was born on October 10, 1941 in Watseka, a daughter of Herald "Kinley" and Ila Darlene (Austin) Hynd, Jr. Nancy married William Edward Yates Jr. in Manteno in 1964. He preceded her in death on October 23, 1981. 

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one sister-in-law, Joanne (Yates) Dailey; three brothers-in-law, Marvin Robinson, Harold Dailey, Myron Cailteux; and three nephews, Steven Dailey, Barry Dailey and Richard Cailteux.

Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Darlene Yates of Normal and Anne Marie (Charles) Atteberry of Normal; two grandchildren, Caroline and Lauren Atteberry of Normal; three sisters, Gail Robinson of Beason, Linda Jane Cailteux of Clifton and Leslie Kay (Paul) VanHoveln of Onarga; one brother-in-law, Thomas (Sandy) Yates of Frankfort; close family friends, Cathy (Mike) Thayer of Clinton, Hanna (Travis) Hudson of Warrensburg, and Paige Barnhill of Clinton; and many nieces and nephews.

Nancy was an insurance rater for Bliss-McKnight Insurance, Bloomington before she retired and was of the Catholic faith. She enjoyed watching sporting events in person and on television.  Nancy was an avid reader and was very talented with needlepoint.  She enjoyed sharing the needlepoint she made with family, most often with her mother, Ila.   She also cherished spending time with all her family, especially the outings she had with her sisters.

Private services will be held with Fr. Michael Powell officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Papineau.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or to her granddaughters’ education fund with checks made payable to Caroline and Lauren Atteberry Education Fund (c/o CEFCU, 3 Traders Circle, Normal, IL 61761).  

Arrangements are by the Knapp Funeral Home in Onarga.
