Ryan Yates Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home Ltd. on Feb. 10, 2026.
RYAN PATRICK YATES

BOSTON, MA - It is with profound grief and sadness that we announce the passing of our son and brother, Ryan Yates, 32, of Boston, Massachusetts on January 20, 2026 following a short illness.

Ryan was a kind and caring young man and a deeply cherished son, brother, and friend. He was born in Albany, NY to Mary Anne and John Yates on March 2,1993 and grew up in Glenmont. As a young boy Ryan was bright, adventurous, and loved to have fun with his friends and family. As an adult, his natural curiosity for science and technology led him to his work in the field of biotechnology research.

Ryan was a gifted and accomplished musician, playing trombone with the Empire State Youth Orchestra, New York All-State Band, and School of Orchestral Studies, as well as studying piano and guitar during his pre-college years. After graduating from Bethlehem Central High School in 2011, he went on to study at the University at Buffalo, graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology with a Minor in Pharmacology and Toxicology, and a Master of Science in Biotechnology. While he was a student, Ryan was a member of Dr. Jinwoo Park's lab, where he contributed to research and publications on neurobiology and behavioral pharmacology. After graduating from the University at Buffalo, Ryan moved to Boston, where he worked in the biotechnology industry contributing to research on medications to treat neurodegenerative illnesses including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases.

Outside of work, Ryan remained a music fan, playing his guitars and listening to his favorite bands, from Phish to Ozzy Osbourne to Billy Strings. He was also a talented home chef, avid hiker, and passionate fan of the Boston Red Sox.

Ryan is survived by his parents, Mary Anne and John Yates of Saratoga Springs, NY, his sister Kristen Yates and brother-in-law EJ Corcuera of Guilderland, NY, his grandmother Grace Yates, his uncles, Robert (Wendy) Yates and Charles Terry, Jr., and his aunts, Kristine Maxwell and Karen Maxwell, and several cousins and their families. He also leaves behind his loyal beagle companion Annie. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, John Yates, Jr. and Mary and Woodrow Maxwell, his aunt Elizabeth A. Terry and uncles Woodrow J. Maxwell and David C. Maxwell.

Ryan will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Friends and relatives are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 23 Crumitie Road, Loudonville on April 11 at 10 a.m. The mass will be followed by interment at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, 29 Delatour Road, Watervliet.

Ryan's family invites you to consider a donation to the Beagle Freedom Project or The Michael J. Fox Foundation in his memory.
