Nanetta Thompson

1946 - 2025

Nanetta Clearman Thompson, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 8, in Bedford, Texas, with her daughters by her side. Visitation will be held in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel in Plainview, Texas, on Friday, June 13, from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm, with burial after the service at Plainview Memorial Park.

Nanetta was born January 14, 1946, in Lamesa, Texas, to J.C. and Anna Laura Clearman. She graduated from Hereford High School in 1964 and earned a Bachelor's degree in elementary education from Wayland Baptist University in 1969. She married Gary Thompson in 1969, and they made their home in the Texas Panhandle. Nanetta taught second grade in Kress for over 25 years. She loved her students and could remember each child who passed through her classroom!

Nanetta loved going on trips to Red River, New Mexico with her family and friends. Many memories were made there on the ski slopes or on the numerous jeep trails. She loved reliving the stories told about those trips. Nanetta was a fan of true crime books and television shows. Gary often joked that if she chose to kill him the police would never find his body. In her later years, she developed a love for crossword puzzles, and her sweet tooth was legendary. Because of her great love for her grandchildren, Nanetta (Nana to her grandkids) would always allow herself to be drawn into long games of Uno with them, even though she almost always lost.

Nanetta is preceded in death by her parents, J.C. and Anna Laura Clearman; her husband, Gary Steven Thompson; and a brother, Jamie Clearman.

She is survived by her daughter Cathy Thompson and her husband Thomas Bergami of North Richland Hills, Texas; her daughter JoBeth Hopp and her husband Steve Hopp of Miamisburg, Ohio; her brother Kenneth Clearman and his wife Linda Clearman of Arlington, Texas; her sister Dianne Walser and her husband Kenny Walser of Prosper, Texas; her sister Mary Jo Leonard and her husband Mike Leonard of Canadian, Texas; and four grandchildren: Keely Hopp, Hailey Hopp, Dane Hopp, and Bella Bergami. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to AdoptAClassroom.org, a foundation to support teachers and classrooms in need.
