Naoma Slaugh Obituary

Naoma Slaugh

1937 ~ 2025

Our dearest mom and Gram, Naoma (Karren) Slaugh, passed away on May 31, 2025, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Naoma was born January 30, 1937, in Vernal, Utah to Merrell and Irene (Beddo) Karren. She was one of ten children and was the last of her siblings to pass away. Growing up in Vernal, Naoma attended Uintah High School where she lettered in women's basketball. Upon high school graduation Naoma was recognized for her perfect school attendance grades one through twelve. An achievement we were frequently reminded of. Naoma enjoyed school and was very proud to attend Brigham Young University, remaining a Cougar fan for life.

Naoma married her husband of 52 years, Carmon Slaugh, also of Vernal, Utah, on August 15, 1958. Carmon preceded her in death in July 2010. Together they had four children: Kip (Sue), Kim, Shona (Brad) and Shelly (Gregg). They lived their lives together in the Millcreek area loving their family and community. At the time of her death, Naoma was a loving Gram to 11 grandchildren: Matthew (Julie), Dallen (Zoe), Rachael (Will), Chris, Tess, Connor, Jamie (Spencer), Justin (Danielle), Jace (Aly), Nikolas, and Samuel. She also had 13 great-grandchildren: Carmon, Ruth, Montgomery, Mia, Bendall, Cameron, Avery, Jax, Callen, Bowen, Cohen, Rosie, and Solomon.

Naoma was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her lifetime. Through the teachings of the church, our mom was dedicated to service not only to her family, but also to the members of her neighborhood and church community. It was a rare time when she was not engaged with helping one or more of the people she loved so much. As our mom aged, she developed dementia and those who knew and loved her returned that dedication in many acts of kindness as this disease gradually took her from us. We will be forever grateful for the support our family received during the last years of her life. We are especially grateful for the care she received from the staff of The Ridge Foothill and Canyon Hospice who were all so kind, patient, and loving to our mom as she and our family navigated our way through her end of life.

A funeral will be held to honor the life of our mom on Friday, June 13, 2025, at the Rosecrest Ward, 3101 South 2300 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. A viewing will be held from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, with funeral services immediately following. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Our mom and Gram will be greatly missed by our family and all those who had the opportunity to know and love her.

Naoma, What a great lady! Always remembered you, always kind, the best sense of humor, and happy to help if needed. We met Naoma & Carmen when we moved in next to the Darringtons, 48 yrs ago. What a fun neighborhood back then.

Naoma was a great helper to many. When we had a fire in our home, she was one of the first ones there to help us clean and restore what had not be burned. Every time we had a problem at our home, she always called to see if she could help. She was a great lady! My condolences go out to her family!

What a great friend she was to our family and one our mom´s many "sisters" who worked so selflessly to help so many! We love Naoma.

Kip, Kim and Shelly, Oh how, I wish I could be back in Salt Lake City, to help you share the burden as each of pass through this part of life. Your mother's tenderness touched so many lives; I will always remember the service she rendered to my mother as she passed through her trials so long ago. My thoughts and prayers are with each of you. The ol' neighborhood will never be the same ... Fondly and sincerely, Randall R. Greene (Randy Greene/Hiland View 1st Ward)

I was looking at my ancestry file this morning and your mom´s name came up on my file . She was my grandma Bertha Karren Wilcoxson´s niece .
She looks so much like my Grandma. Same white hair. Same hooded eyes.
My grandma died in 1990 in a car wreck at 90 years old. I send my condolences
