The following is an obituary written by Nathalie Jo's loving family.
Nathalie Jo Hawkins Leathers, 91 of Lizton, Indiana, passed away peacefully on December 5th surrounded by her family.
She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was known for being a strong-willed and passionate woman. Jo was born on May 13, 1934, to George Dewey Hawkins and Ressie Crosby Hawkins of North Salem, Indiana. She graduated from North Salem High School in 1952. She married William (Bill) Leathers on May 23, 1952. They were married for 45 years and went on to have two children, Dennis Allen and Nancy Jo.
Jo was an avid IU basketball fan and basketball season was always a special time of year for her and her family. She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, crocheting, making quilts, NASCAR racing, taking care of her family, and attending the events of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and granddaughter, Jacy Lee Cloud. She is survived by her son, Dennis (Donna) and daughter, Nancy (Rick); five granddaughters, Jennifer (Todd), Kelly (Roger), Jami (Jeremiah), Jackie (Ryan), and Jenna (Ryan); and eight great-grandchildren, Isabella, Cole, Cade, Cora, Harper, Jacey, Madelyn, and Ike; her sister, Theda Stewart, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will gather at Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, for visitation from 11 am to 2 pm, with the service honoring Jo's life beginning at 2 pm. Jo will be laid to rest next to her husband, in the Lizton K of P Cemetery, following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your charity of choice in Jo's name.
Arrangements are entrusted to Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home and Cremation Services Hendricks County, Indiana. All are encouraged to keep Jo's family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time of loss.
