Nathalie Rousseau nee Durand, a pillar of strength and love, entered this world on October 21, 1925, in the town of Cavaillon, Haiti, as the cherished second child of Decius and Marianne Durand. On March 25, 2024, surrounded by her family at The Pearl of Rolling Meadows, Nathalie answered the call of our heavenly father to join him in eternity. Preceding her in death was her beloved husband, Andre Philippe Rousseau, with whom she shared an extraordinary union of 79 years. She was also preceded by her brother, Coustard Durand, and her son Joseph Rousseau. A devoted homemaker, Nathalie's life was defined by her unwavering dedication to her family. Blessed with 14 children, she ensured they received an education and spiritual guidance and never went without shelter or sustenance. Having endured the hardships of the Great Depression, Nathalie's mother instilled in her the art of seamstress, a skill that served her well throughout her life. Nathalie's melodious voice echoed with praises to the Lord, whether in the comfort of her home or within the walls of her church. As a merchant, she traveled between Haiti and the United States, procuring goods to sell back home. She and her husband founded "the Piste," a bustling community theater that brought joy to all who frequented it. A trailblazer ahead of her time, Nathalie shattered the norms to become the first female Mayor of Cavaillon, exemplifying her belief in challenging the status quo and setting higher standards for herself and her family. Upon migrating to America in her senior years, Nathalie remained rooted in her Haitian community while nurturing her grandkids with boundless love and wisdom. An unwavering beacon of faith, Nathalie's devotion to her Catholic beliefs never wavered. She embodied the spirit of servitude, generously supporting her town church, Notre Dame Du Perpétuel Secours (Our Lady of Perpetual Help), and ensuring that her faith remained the cornerstone of her life. As she embarks on her eternal journey, Nathalie leaves a legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering faith. She will forever be cherished and deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Nathalie lived for 98 years and was the center pillar of the Rousseau family. She will truly be missed.
