Funeral services for N. Brad Carter Jr., retired State Senator, will be held Friday, July 12, 2024 @ 11:30am at Webb & Stephens Funeral Home North located at 7774-A Hwy 39 North with Rev. Dustin Morris officiating, joined by his eldest son Rev. Nate Carter, III. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Garden 7774-A Hwy 39 North. All interested in Celebrating the life of retired State Senator N. Brad Carter, Jr., with the Carter/Haugen Family, are invited to visit with them Thursday, July 11, 2024 @ 5:00pm to 7:00pm and then again Friday, July 12, 2024 @ 10:30am to 11:30am at Webb & Stephens Funeral Home North.
Senator Carter, age 87, of Meridian, went to be with the Lord, July 01, 2024 @ 7:36pm at Ochsner Rush Specialty Hospital surrounded by his four boys. He founded Carter Engineering Corporation now known as Carter Miller Sansing, Ltd., an architectural engineer firm with specialties in civil, structural and forensic engineering. Senator Carter began his practice in Mississippi in 1966 and in Maryland in 1963 with multi-state license. His notable building designs in Meridian, MS is Rush Foundation Hospital 5th & 6th floor addition, Rush Foundation Clinic and Rush Foundation ER and Ambulatory Care Building. San Marcos Authentic Mexican Restaurant, La Pinata Mexican Restaurant, Grayson’s Optical and Webb & Stephens Funeral Home. Senator Carter and his wife Deanie raised four boys and a daughter in The Meridian Public School District. Senator Carter served on The Meridian Public School Board for 10 years and served as School Board President from 1985 to 1991. Senator Carter continued serving the citizens of Lauderdale County in the Mississippi State Senate as Vice-Chair on the Education Committee. As owner of WMER AM & FM Radio Station he wrote and produced the weekly publication, Signpost on the Road to Armageddon. Senator Carter continued his Christian Ministry for 35 years as an Associate Missionary Layman with the General Council of the Assemblies of God Church providing Architectural Engineering services for Churches and Bible Schools on 5 continents in multiple countries. Senator Carter received his BSCE from the University of Tennessee where he was inducted into Civil Engineering Honorary Fraternity, Chi Epsilon. He was a life member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.
It was in Knoxville, TN at the University of Tennessee that he met the love of his life and married Clara Dean Ligon who later became WHTV’s, Meridian Romper Room Teacher, the franchise grew to the State of MS and beyond, she was known as Miss Dee. In 1960 Senator Carter served in the US Army on a R&D Post for CBR with special biological warfare research. After 2 years in the Army, Senator Carter attended Central Bible College and Seminary for Post Graduate studies.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Clara Dean Ligon Carter, Deanie was his friend, wife, lover, mother of his children, councilor and a very special glue to our family to share many years. Also preceded in death by his father, Nathan B. Carter, Sr., mother, Mary Ellen Reeves Carter and brothers R. Roland Carter, Gary G. Carter, and James H. Carter.
He leaves loving, fun and fond memories to sons and a daughter, Nate (Pam) of Boca Raton, FL., Mark (Renee) of Meridian, MS., Tim (Sandra) of St. Augustine, FL., Tom (Jennifer) of Carriere, MS., Ms. Linda Haugen of Argyle, MN., sixteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Surviving sibling Guy (Marsha) Carter, Sister-in-Law, Patti Carter, Sister-in-Law, Terri Carter.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Nathan Carter, IV, Jon Carter, Jace Carter, T. J. Carter, Cole Carter, Daniel Haugen, Matthew Haugen and Honorary Pallbearers nephews Tony Ligon, Damon Ligon, Barry Ligon, Jason Ligon and Wade Ligon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Word Talk, Inc., the 501(c)3 charitable tax-exempt ministry of WMER Radio Station, P.O. Box 4334 Meridian, MS 39304 in the memory of Rev. N. Brad Carter, Jr. founder of the WMER Radio Bible Class Ministry of Word Talk, Inc.
