Nathan Mark Halabuda

New Paltz

Nathan passed away on August 9, 2025, after a short illness. He was born on December 5, 1977, at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois. At a young age, he became a world traveler, living in faraway places including the Azores and Iceland. He loved to move from place to place--Albany, Chicago, Boston, Syracuse, Brooklyn, New Paltz--every location a new adventure. Nathan made close friends wherever he went because of his sense of humor, zest for life, and kind heart. He loved to ride his bike, skateboard, play tennis, and hike the trails of New York with his sister and brother-in-law. He was an avid fan of Syracuse basketball, Illinois football, professional soccer, baseball, and tennis. If the sport requires a ball, he was a fan. Nathan was an autodidact who mastered many subjects because of his innate intellectual curiosity.

Nathan is survived by his parents, two sisters, and two brothers-in-law.

He will be missed, but he will live forever in our hearts.

I remember spending time with Nathan, with his friend Justin Miller in New York and communicating with Nathan over a few years, he will be sadly missed, he was a very compassionate and caring person. I remember he always seemed to make me laugh and he had a great way of finding humour in anything, and with Justin as well the three of us had great times in New York when I was there.

I absolutely loved Nathan, he was a rare one.

My condolences to his family.

Nate was my best friend in high school. He taught me so much about living that I think of meeting him as a real turning point in my life. We laughed so much together. We danced so much together! He treated everyone with respect and love and it all came back to him. I was thrilled but not surprised to see how many people were amazed and affected in a positive way by him after we parted ways and lived in different places. He was truly one of a kind and I feel lucky to have spent so much time with him at a young age. He was a good friend to me and I love him dearly.
