**************
Nathaniel David Fox ííxohgagarishda ahbá (Young Fox Ears) was born in Williston, ND, on May 29, 2009, to Nathaniel Fox and Jennifer Mann. He is a member of the Waterbuster Clan and a child of the Prairie Chicken Clan.
Nate was raised in Four Bears, ND, and had a large, immediate and extended family who raised him with love, respect, and a strong sense of family. He had five sisters: three older and two younger, and three older brothers, and did not take the meaning of brother, family, or uncle lightly. He held his relationships with high regard and had serious respect in every aspect of his relations with his family and "his" people. He was a great uncle to all his many nephews, and he loved it when everyone called him Uncle and almost demanded it (lol).
He was a very active and outdoors guy; his dad and brothers taught him a love for hunting, fishing, bikes, and horses at a young age. Nate grew up learning every trail ride in all directions of Four Bears along the riverbanks with his brothers, nephews, and friends. He loved horses from a very young age as his "poppa Fish" would wait for him every morning to go water and feed the horses at his Grampa Orville's. He also liked building with Legos and completed multiple complex builds as a child.
He knew he was maturing when he was old enough to ride with his brothers "off the family compound." Before then, he couldn't leave the fence line of the family compound. When the boys said, "Let's go, Nate!" he happily and excitedly grabbed his helmet and ran out the doors, saying, "OK, Mom, I'm going with the boys!" with a huge smile on his face. He loved his brothers and looked up to them very much; they were his greatest and loudest fans, along with his sisters; the bond they shared was deeper than blood and bones. He loved his siblings very much and had a special bond with his sister, Sadie, his other half and twin, from the day she was born. She knew his every secret and password. They were so much alike she could even open his phone using facial recognition.
Nate's love, aside from his family, was food, family, friends, and good times with his bros; he loved his sleep as three days a week, if not more. He would go straight from school to bed, just sleeping and growing and growing. He skipped infant sizes as a baby, jumping quickly to the bigger sizes.
He attended New Town Elementary School from Kindergarten to 6th grade. While there, many people touched his life, from teachers to office staff. Nate and Ms. Bear, the elementary principal, shared a mutual adoration for each other. Nate said Mr. Noecker, his 5th-grade teacher, gave the best hugs. He really "got him," and every time Nate saw him, he would greet him and get a big hug.
While attending New Town, he played football under coaches Dan Miller, Nate Miller, and Preston Danks. He also wrestled under coach Darby Haugen. These coaches provided him with more than just coaching skills on the mat and the field; the coaches rode his butt, grooming him with a good heart and strong brethren for his compadre, which strengthened him to be an even better human being. After schooling, Nate planned to join the services and possibly become an architect or one of the many other occupations he had always talked about.
Last year, Nate transferred to Watford City Middle School where he made a lasting impression. He formed a bond with the students, staff, and his favorite, the school secretary.
He grew to know, love, and protect his many sisters in all aspects of life. Once he took you under his wing, he would become their craziest yet caring and your fiercest protector. He had no problem saying "love you" or sharing a hug, his smile, jokes, laughter, and a wink for the ladies. His spirit and good looks sometimes just took him over the top, though, geez! He was definitely a certified heartbreaker, and by the time he was in 4th grade till his last days, he had many loves in his life and made some awesome friendships with his ladies and brothers.
He was a social butterfly (just like his mama). Nate had a large group of friends, and there were few places he could go where he didn't have a friend or companion in his company or with family not far away. This boy could go anywhere and attract friends and find brothers (which he held near and dear to his heart). He enjoyed riding dirt bikes, playing video games, and listening to music. There were many summers and seasons when his bros would be all around the campfire or chilling at the house. You could often find him heading to the lake at sunrise to fish with Oakley or one of the boys. Nate had a strong humor in his genes, and there wasn't a tease, a joke, or a prank he wasn't always doing on somebody. He had such camaraderie with friends and was truly blessed with their companionship.
His Big Bro, Steven Mayer, was not just one of his older brothers but was his favorite musician. Nate took great pride in the fact that Steven would send him his music before it dropped to the public. The Agony Boyz (Steven and the Guys) was his favorite group to listen to; he could sing every song. He wanted to get into rodeo with his friends; his adopted dad, Brandon Helfrich, introduced him to roping and rodeo life.
Nate greatly respected his older brothers and always talked with and listened to their guidance. He took great pride and respect in his relationships and being "Uncle" or Bro to many. Nate was loving and had a personality that shined in all he did. Nate had just received his Hunter's Safety Certificate and was excited to get his deer with his brothers instead of being the bushwalker.
Nate had a huge heart and lots of love, which he shared openly and often. Nathaniel David Fox, 15, of Four Bears/New Town, ND, began his Journey to the Spirit World on Thursday, September 26, 2024, near New Town.
He was welcomed into the spirit world by his brothers, Adam Chase and Alvin White Singer; sister, Samantha Hurkes-Hall; nephew, Billy "Tuff" Hall; maternal grandparents, Sadie (Young Bear) Mann and Merrill Mann; aunt, Natalie White Singer; paternal grandparents; Anthony David "Fish" Fox, Julia Smith (Biological Grandma), George and Goldie Fox; and Godfather, David Howling Wolf.
