Obituary published on Legacy.com by Baskerville Funeral Home Inc. - Humboldt on Jan. 26, 2024.
Another soldier has gone to get a great reward. He fought the fight; he kept the faith; and now he has gone home to God. His Soul has gone to God who giveth; the earth will claim its own, his body. But he is shouting around the throne while we are left to mourn. But some day we will meet again, all our loved ones who have gone before. Some day we will reach that happy land where parting will be no more.
On the morning of Wednesday, January 24, 2024, the angel of silence came into the nursing home of NHC –
Milan, Tennessee, and with chilly fingers sealed the lips of Deacon Nathaniel "Uncle Nate/Uncle Snake/Sunshine" Hurt, our loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. His soul winged its flight from this world of sin, sorrow, and pain to a place of eternal rest.
Deacon Nathaniel "Uncle Nate/Uncle Snake/Sunshine" Hurt was born on May 8, 1939, to Ebb Hurt and Johnnie Hurt in Trezevant, Carroll County, Tennessee. He had five siblings: Martha (Billy) Adkisson, W. C. (Dorothy) Joyner, James Hurt, James Newbill, and George (Luallen) Hurt, all of whom preceded him in death. He was united in Holy matrimony to the love of his life, Virginia Roberson, who preceded him in death. They shared a special daughter, Penny, and they spent many years traveling to Chicago to spend time with their beloved daughter and grandchildren.
Deacon Nathaniel attended Clay School of
Trezevant, Tennessee. He was employed at Emerson in
Paris, Tennessee, and he retired from Eaton (Dana) Corporation of
Humboldt, Tennessee.
Deacon Nathaniel joined Mount Ararat Baptist Church of
Trezevant, Tennessee, at an early age. He was a very loving, loyal, and faithful member of the church, singing on the Male and Gospel Choirs, becoming a Deacon later in life, and spending over fifty years in the Master's service. He gave freely of his time, his talents of singing in the church, working on lawnmowers, being a mechanic, an all-around handyman, and helping whoever called upon him. Deacon Nathaniel was so dearly loved, and it seemed that nearly everyone called him "Uncle Nate, Uncle Snake, or Sunshine" regardless of being a relative or not. He was, indeed, very soft spoken, and he was granted the singing voice of a mockingbird and a smile to light up the world.
Deacon Nathaniel "Uncle Nate/Uncle Snake/Sunshine" Hurt leaves to cherish his precious memory, a loving and special daughter, Penny Roberson of Chicago, IL; one grandson – Rafael Roberson of Chicago, IL; two great-grandchildren: Rafael Roberson, Jr., and Aaliyah Roberson, – both of Chicago, Illinois; one brother-in-law: James (Julier) Ivory; one sister-in-law: Darlene (Ricky) Robinson; and a host of very dear and loving nieces, nephews, cousins, his church, and friends.
