Mr. Nathaniel McClendon Jr. 62 years of age departed this life, traversing from labor to reward. The son of the late Nathaniel & Elsie Rosezena (Whitaker) McClendon. Nathaniel was born on August 13th 1951, the oldest of 11 siblings. Upon relocating to Richmond, Virginia, Nate accepted Christ in his life. While walking in Christ he became a staple of his community, volunteering in Community Centers helping children, tutoring neighborhood kids with academics and consistently being there for his many nieces and nephews. Nate was not only known as Uncle Stooge to nieces/nephews but to all to neighborhood kids as well. His dedication and Christian persuasion often resulted positively for the young people he helped. Educated in the Norwalk, Ct. School System and graduating from Brien McMahan High School provided him with an excellent foundation for furthering his education. With a scholarship from Dr. Martin Luther King Society Nate graduated from Virginia Union University with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Sociology and the completion of the Urban Studies Program. Mr. McClendon was employed by the City of Richmond where he held several positions in Social Work and the last 15 years as a Teacher (Substitute). To all that had the pleasure of knowing Nate knew that he was True to himself, true to his word & TRULY LOVED his family & friends. Even through his tough exterior he had a tender heart and would always say my head & heart may not always agree but I will follow my God & heart. Through the years, Nathaniel has always been a fun loving person with a witty sense of humor and was truly loved by all. He was compassionate and giving of his time, knowledge towards young people and persons less fortunate. Left to cherish his memory is his brother Irving McClendon of Norwalk, CT, and sisters Robin (Doug) Shoemaker of Columbus, OH, Karen (Eric) Bray of Columbia, SC, Cheryl McClendon of Richmond VA, Roslyn McClendon of Richmond VA, Edith (Junior) Devalle of Norwalk, CT and Jamie (Kyle) Garnett of Trumbull, CT. Uncle Stooge was blessed with 18 nieces and 12 nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Nate is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Thomas & Karl McClendon and sister Juanita McClendon.
