Nay Sim Lim was born on august 23, 1934, in Slab Leng, Srok Boset, Kampong Speu Province, Cambodia, to Lim and Nov Lim.
In 1951, She married her husband, You Hing Ly, and together they raised six children (three daughters and three sons); Bouy Ly (passed away August 7, 2025), Kong Ly, Pang Ly (passed during the war), Leng Ly, Heng Ly, Ngim Ly.
She and her family lived a joyful life until war broke out in Cambodia in 1970. during this time, she moved to Phonm Penh with her children and was separated from her husband. After becoming a widow, she courageously raised five children on her own, showing incredible strength and resilience as a single mother during times of hardship.
In 1973, she relocated her family to Battambang, where they lived until 1979 when the Khmer rouge took control. In April of that year, her eldest daughter, Bouy Ly and her husband decided to lead the family's escape into Thailand. the journey was difficult, but they eventually made it to America in 1980.
As a single mother, Nay sim worked tirelessly to support her children by selling sarongs and fabric in Phnom Penh. After resettling in the United states, she continued her legacy of care by helping to raise her beloved grandchildren while her children built new lives.
Nay Sim Lim passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025, surrounded by her family. she will be remembered for her strength, resilience and deep love for her children and Grandchildren. Her legacy of courage and devotion will live on through them.
