Let the muffled drum roll, but end with a gentle tap, for one who has been among us for far too short a time

I had the pleasure of knowing Neal for many years through our mutual love of music and playing the tuba in several ensembles. He was a fine gentleman and was good natured. He enjoyed bringing his newest tuba to rehearsals (there were many) with a big smile. He was marching with the Maryland Defense Force Band with a heavy tuba strung over his shoulders well past the age of 60 and never complaining when the pavement was well over 100 degrees. I was delighted when he met his lady friend after his wife passed. Neal had a joy of life that I admired.

Mr. Sipe was one of the best teachers I ever had, at any level-and also one of the best coaches. He made us feel like we were a team; that we all belonged together. I will miss his love for all kinds of music, his sense of humor, and the leadership he showed us. I hope it will help the family to know that hundreds of us will remember him with fondness and with gratitude.
