Neil Michaelson age 85 of Guin, Al passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2023 in the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Guin, AL.
Born March 22, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan, he is the Son of the late Arthur and Doris Michaelson and the Husband of the late Marion Helen Michaelson.
Mr. Michaelson served in the US Navy, Air National Guard and the marine Corp earning SSGT and CPL status. He also earned a total of 5 degrees with 2 of them being PHDs. He held many certificates in community development, public works, administration municipal finance and urban policy. He was also a licensed mortgage broker. He served as the City Manager in many cities over the years, but retired from Jefferson County Dept. of Health as the CFO in Birmingham. After retirement he enjoyed buying and selling antiques.
He is survived by 2 Sons, Steve Michaelson of Birmingham, AL, Clint (Melissa) Michaelson of Guin, AL 2 Daughters, Tracy Michaelson of Georgia and Shannon Michaelson of DeFuniak Spring, FL, a Grandson, Solomon Phillips of DeFuniak Spring, FL and a Step Grandson, Lee (Rylee) Akers of Detroit, AL.
Services held Friday, March 31, 2023 at 11:00 AM from the Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Guin City Cemetery. Bro. B.J. Mills officiating.
