Neil Weir Obituary

Visit the Kurtz Memorial Chapel - Frankfort website to view the full obituary.

Neil Robert Weir, 52, of Manhattan, Illinois passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, after a courageous two-year battle with Gastroesophageal Junction Adenocarcinoma.

Neil was born March 27, 1973, in DeKalb, Illinois, and grew up in Sycamore, where he attended and graduated from Sycamore High School in 1991. Neil was proud to be an Eagle Scout. He graduated with honors from Northern Illinois University in 1995 where he received a B.S. in Business and Corporate Communications. He went on to earn his MBA from Ashford University, San Diego.

Neil married Lisa (Bauer) on June 21, 2003, in Sycamore, Illinois. Together, they moved to Manhattan, Illinois, where they raised their two daughters, Kaitlyn and Megan. Being a dad to his girls was the role Neil treasured the most. He was endlessly proud of them and loved them more than anything in this world. His family was the reason he fought so hard.

Neil dedicated his entire career to T-Mobile, beginning in 2002. In his current role as a Retail Development Manager, he was known as a strong leader who worked hard, cared deeply about his team, and built lasting friendships with colleagues who were like family to him. He was respected by his colleagues for his leadership and dedication, and he took great pride in mentoring others and helping teams grow and succeed. Neil left a lasting mark on everyone he worked with.

Neil was also a member of the United Methodist Church of New Lenox. He was a lifelong Chicago Bears and Cubs fan (even during the seasons that tested his patience), and a man who could spend hours fishing, sitting by the campfire, and talking about music. Neil taught himself how to play the guitar and loved practicing classic rock songs that filled so many of his days. Music was always close to his heart.

Neil is survived by his loving wife, Lisa (Bauer); his daughters, Kaitlyn Beatrice and Megan Lynn, whom he was immensely proud of; his parents, Bob and Karla (Hetland); his sister, Rachel (Jeremy) Bell, with his nephews Riley and Atticus Bell; his nieces Maggie, Kelly, and his goddaughter Abby Aiello; his nephews Miles and Monty Murray; Neil was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sigurd and Beatrice (Wesson) Hetland, his uncles Paul Weir and Tom Weir.

Neil’s sense of humor, quick wit, and ability to make everyone feel welcome will be deeply missed. His family hopes that when people remember him, they think of his strength and how hard he fought every day to be here as long as possible with the people he loved. He was the strongest, bravest man we knew.

Twenty-two years of marriage was not nearly enough, but they were beautiful years filled with love, laughter, and memories that will last forever. Loving Neil has been the greatest gift of our lives.

Please come in your favorite concert shirt to celebrate Neil’s life the way he would have wanted - surrounded by family, friends, stories, laughter, and a little rock ‘n’ roll.
