Nellie May, a phenomenal woman whose grace, kindness, and unwavering spirit touched countless lives, peacefully departed this life, leaving a legacy of love, strength, and compassion. Her presence illuminated every room, and her journey through life was a testament to faith, family, and resilience.
Nellie was born on May 21, 1943, in St. Anns, Jamaica, to her beloved parents, Linda Dowe and Marsie Campbell. From a young age, Nellie exuded warmth and purpose, qualities that would define her personal and professional life. She became co-owner and company secretary of Nu-Fashion Furnishing in Kingston, Jamaica, where her dedication and leadership helped shape the business. In pursuit of broader opportunities, Nellie later migrated to the United States of America. There, she continued to serve with excellence as an Administrative Assistant at Parsons Brinkerhoff Engineering Company. Her professionalism, diligence, and care earned the admiration of colleagues and community members alike. Nellie was preceded in death by her loving parents, Linda Dowe and Marsie Campbell; her dear daughters, Lavern May and Marsha May; and her cherished granddaughter, Shelly-Ann Lawrence. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted children: Althea Aarons-Ferguson, Donalin Lawrence, Dudston May, and Duane May; daughters-in-law, Mitzie May and Cyrille May; sons-in-law, Lawrence Jones and Mark Lawrence; and beloved grandchildren: Sieja Ferguson, Arianne Ferguson, Dominic May, Abigail Lawrence, Devin May, and Calila May. She is also survived by her loving brothers, Michael Dowe and Delroy Dowe; sisters, Louise Dowe and Gloria Mowatt; and a host of other relatives and dear friends who will miss her deeply. Nellie’s life was one of love and generosity, a guiding light to all who knew her. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit will continue to live on in our hearts and memories. May she rest in eternal peace.
