Nellie Plunkett Obituary

Graveside service for Mrs. Nellie Frances Blackwelder Plunkett, 99, of Anniston, will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Anniston Memorial Gardens. Brother Buddy Nelson will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 pm at Anniston Memorial Funeral Home. Mrs. Plunkett passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023, at NHC. She is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin F Plunkett, daughter, Marsha Slaton, son-in law, Larry Webb; grandson, Justin Plunkett; her parents, Annice Blackwelder Montooth and Walter Montooth. She is survived by her children, Cheryl Calvert (Ken), Buster Plunkett (Wanda), Dorris Webb, son in law, Eddie Slaton, grandchildren; Brandon Thrasher, Chris Calvert, Jarrod Plunkett, Chae Williams (Chris), Carrie Hughbanks (John), Phillip Webb, Emily Webb, 11 great grandchildren, Caely Williams, Cortney Williams, Chloey Williams, Savannah Plunkett, Gracelyn Plunkett, Micah Plunkett, Dalton Thrasher, Deanna Thrasher, Troy Thrasher, Tucker Thrasher, and Seth Thrasher; great great granddaughter, Zoey Thrasher. Mrs. Plunkett was a lifelong resident of Anniston. She was a member of First Baptist at McClellan. Mrs. Plunkett's joy in life was her children and her family. She was a very giving person and loved to share her love of the holiday seasons with everyone she met. She worked as a telephone operator at both Southern Bell and under Civil Service. She retired as chief operator at Ft. McClellan and AAD. In the past, she enjoyed working and teaching ceramics. She loved anything pertaining to the University of Alabama, especially the football program. RTR! She participated in organizations such as McClellan Belles, the Red Hat Society, and a local birthday club. She was an avid "Christmas in July" fan on QVC. Pallbearers will be Buster Plunkett, Jarrod Plunkett, Chris Calvert, Phillip Webb, Chris Williams, and John Hughbanks. Honorary Pallbearer will be Brandon Thrasher. The family would like to express their gratitude to the volunteers of Meals on Wheels – Carol, Jill, Steve, Gary, Patti, Raymond, Frank, Richard and Nancy - for the love and friendship during the last few years. Nellie has been a treasured client of Meals On Wheels for many years. It has been a delight and an honor to serve her. She bonded with her volunteers over many things, including the University of Alabama and her doll collection! We will miss her so much, and we extend condolences and love to her wonderful family.
