Nelma Barkley Obituary
Breaux Bridge, Louisiana- It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Nelma Barkley, who departed this life on September 8, 2025, at the age of 84. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, September 15, 2025 at Pellerin Funeral Home in Breaux Bridge.
A visitation will take place at Pellerin Funeral Home in Breaux Bridge on Monday, September 15, 2025, from 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM.
Rev. Michael Richard will officiate at the funeral service. Reader will be Addison Thibodeaux. Burial will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Henderson.
Born on March 23, 1941, in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. Nelma was a devoted mother, business owner, and community member, leaving a rich legacy of love and compassion. As the proud owner of Breaux Bridge Hardware Store, Nelma dedicated her professional life to serving her local community, where she formed lasting relationships and made a positive impact on many. Her commitment to her work was matched only by her involvement with the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, a testament to her belief in the value of friendship and service.
Nelma was not only a hardworking entrepreneur, but also a woman of many passions. She cherished the simple joys of life, finding happiness in sewing, decorating, dancing, and tending to her beautiful garden. Her creativity and zest for life were evident to all who knew her. Above all, Nelma was a loving and compassionate caregiver to her family, selflessly nurturing her children and grandchildren with unwavering support and affection.
She is survived by her three sons: Laurence Barkley (Laurie), Walter Barkley, and Robert Barkley; her daughter, Suzanne (Neil) Thibodeaux; her beloved grandchildren, Laurence Barkley IV, Skylar Barkley, Logan Thibodeaux, and Addison Thibodeaux; as well as her cherished great-grandchildren, Laurence Barkley V, Aurora Barkley, and Theodore Thibodeaux. Nelma is also survived by her dear brother, Walter Use'.
She is preceded in death by her spouse, Laurence Barkley, Jr., parents Walter and Enola Hebert Use'; son, John Barkley; and her brother, Davis Use'.
Pallbearers will be Logan Thibodeaux, Laurence Barkley, Neil Thibodeaux, Walter Barkley, Lars Barkley, and Larry Barkley.
Honorary pallbearer is Donovan Domingue.
