Nels Christ Hanson, 65, of McAlester, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at his home.

Nels was born on August 6, 1960 in Chicago, Illinois to Bertram and Jacqueline (Reed) Hanson. He married Kathryn Vander Meer on April 26, 1986 in Escondido, California. He enjoyed RV-ing, being a sound technician, drag racing, classic cars, investigative research, and the Chicago Bears. He attended Renewal Church.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Hanson of McAlester, OK; children and spouses, Michelle Brockway and fiancé Scott Driskill of McAlester, OK, Karl and Katie Hanson of White Cloud, MI, Cassandra and Andrew Lecher of Placerville, CA, Christopher Hanson of McAlester, OK, and Dresden Hanson of McAlester, OK; three grandchildren, Donovan Brockway, Connor Brockway, and Roran Lecher; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Brenda Hanson of Joplin, MO, Raymond and Tammy Hanson of Escalon, CA, and Jay and Dawn Hanson of Hometown, IL; sisters and brothers-in-law, Deborah and Michael Rodriguez of Livermore, CA, Shelley and Eric Van Sant of Peyton, CO; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Nels was greeted at heaven's gates with open arms by his son Ian; his parents, Bertram and Jacqueline Hanson; his siblings, John and Virginia; his sons-in-law, Sean Brockway and Jeff Pastrana; and his parents-in-law, James and Barbara Parkinson.

The family will have a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at the First Assembly of God Church, 1800 Hardy Springs Rd., McAlester, with Bobby Wingo and Frank Earls officiating.
