Nelson L. Plitt

Nelson L. Plitt, 74, of Spring Grove, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, September 11, 2025. He was the devoted husband of Gail A. (Mummert) Plitt, with whom he shared 33 cherished years of marriage.

Born June 13, 1951, in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Nelson was the son of the late Charles F. Plitt and Nellie I. (Milburn) Plitt.

Nelson was raised in Littlestown and was a proud graduate of Littlestown High School, Class of 1969. While still in school, he worked his first job picking cherries and later delivering newspapers. Following graduation, he began working at Double Day in the shipping department, where he also enjoyed playing softball on the company team. He later worked at SKF, continuing his love for sports by playing softball and golf with colleagues.

A hardworking and determined man, Nelson held a variety of jobs before following his passion and establishing his own carpentry business. Through his work, he served families and businesses across the region within an hour's drive of his home. He was a talented craftsman who took great pride in the quality of his work and the reputation he built.

Beyond his career, Nelson had many interests and hobbies. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, gardening, riding his motorcycle, landscaping, archery, weight lifting, drag racing and go-karts. His happiest times, however, were spent with family at their cabin in West Virginia, where countless treasured memories were made.

In addition to his wife Gail, Nelson is survived by his daughter, Jessica Wolfe of Mechanicsburg; his son, Brandon Plitt of Mechanicsburg; his beloved grandchildren, Connor and Mason Wolfe of Mechanicsburg; his siblings: Allen Plitt and wife Flora, Frank Plitt and wife Carla, and Donna Redding and husband Brian; his nieces: April Redding, Cindy Jassar, Mary Jean Stough, Devina Streb and Melissa Plitt, as well as many loving extended family members and dear friends.

A service to celebrate Nelson's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 18th, at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA, with Rev. Kevin D. Orewiler and Rev. Cindy Orewiler officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hanover. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be held on Wednesday, September 17th from 6–8 p.m., and again on Thursday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will include Allen Plitt, Brandon Plitt, Duane Plitt, April Redding, Conner Wolfe and Mason Wolfe.
