Gueydan - A Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Father Ravi will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 11, 2025, at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Nelson James Potier, 67, who passed away on September 8, 2025. He will be laid to rest at Gueydan Cemetery.
A visitation will take place at Vincent Funeral Home of Gueydan on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 6:00 PM. The visitation will continue Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 8:00 AM until the procession departs for the church at 10:40 AM.
Nelson was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was exceedingly proud of his two sons’ accomplishments and adored those who called him “Pop,” his grandson James, and granddaughter Emma, who were a blessing to his life. He took pride in these roles and served the Lord by always offering assistance to his family and friends, whether it was being a handyman, carpenter, auto repair mechanic, grill master, or caregiver.
He loved riding motorcycles, especially with his family and friends, either on a quick day ride or a long excursion exploring the mountains, beach, or the Grand Canyon. He treasured time with his family and loved gathering with them for meals that he prepared. He was incapable of cooking small quantities of food, often joking that he could feed the neighborhood each time he cooked. Not only was he beloved by his human family, but he loved and was loved by his fur family: JT, Fanci (Pipsqueak), Beau, BJ, and Sammie.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 49 years, Gayle Potier; two sons, Justin Potier (Erin) and Travis Potier (Katie); his grandson, James Potier and his granddaughter, Emma Richard; six siblings, Wilson Potier (Tiny), Lucille Duhon (Jerry), Brenda Cooke (Danny), Angela Guidry (Brian), Keith Potier (Ruth) and Rita LeBlanc (Jimmy); best friend for life, Brandon Broussard; his fur babies, BJ and Sammie; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Hilda Potier; two older brothers, Milton and Clifton Potier; and his beloved fur babies, Fanci, Beau and the legendary JT.
