Nelson Sharpe Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Reid's Funeral Home - Dillwyn on Mar. 7, 2025.
"To live in the hearts of those we leave behind, is not to die."
Nelson Lester Sharpe, Sr, son of the late Leslie and Carrie
Woodson Sharpe, was born on March 27, 1945, in Dillwyn,
Virginia. He entered eternity on March 1, 2025, from Hunter
Holmes McGuire Veterans' Medical Center in Richmond, VA.
He attended Buckingham County Public Schools and was a
member of Zion Baptist Church of Dillwyn, VA. Nelson was
drafted into the military and served in the Vietnam War.
After returning from the military, he moved to New Jersey, where
he met and married Bessie Royster. They attended the Bright
Hope Baptist Church.
Later, he returned to Dillwyn, VA, and started his first civilian
job at Seay Milling, where he worked for more than forty years.
He also owned and operated an eighteen wheeler truck with his
brother, John.
During his leisure time, Nelson enjoyed fishing, grilling,
gardening, and watching NASCAR races. His family and friends
remember his stories about being in the military and driving
trucks. He supported his family by helping with home repairs,
driving his granddaughter and attending her sporting events.
In addition to his parents, Nelson was preceded in death by: his
beloved wife, Bessie Sharpe; and his youngest son, Derrick Sharpe.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his son, Nelson Sharpe, Jr.
(Victoria): grandchildren, Aaliyah, Jahien, Devonte' and Deshaun;
two sisters, Lucinda Crummedy and Pauline Fields; one brother,
John Sharpe (Carmazine); great grandsons, Darmacus and Karon;
sisters-in law and brothers-in-law of North Carolina; a host of
nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.
