Neubern Benoit, a beloved figure to many and a dedicated truck driver for Merchant Freight Line, departed this life on January 19, 2026 at the age of 89. Born on October 16, 1936, in Church Point, Louisiana, Joseph's journey was marked by unwavering dedication and a love for his family, which he cherished above all else.
Throughout his life, Joseph nurtured a passion for farming and cattle. He took great pride in his cattle and was known as a true cattleman, embodying the values of hard work and steadfast commitment to the welfare of his family and the farm. His memories are deeply entwined with images of cows, hayfields, and agricultural life, reflecting a deep-seated connection to his roots.
Joseph’s legacy lives on through his loving daughters: Vicky Roche of Beaumont, Sandra Bertrand of Fannett, and Tammy Bergeron of Nederland. His grandchildren—Chad Bertrand and his wife, Courtni, Candyce Birkelbach and her husband, Peyton, Kelly Davis and her husband, Mark, Brad Bertrand, and Kevin Wyble along with his great-grandchildren—Alexis, Kameron, Blaine, Colton, CJ, Aubrey, Collin, and Claire—carry forward the love he instilled in his family. In addition, he is survived by his sisters, Verbie Gennuso of Opelousas, Louisiana, and Donna Richard and her husband, Lonnie, of Church Point, Louisiana. He will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews who loved him and called him "Nonc". The family would like to express their appreciation to his best friends, Joe and Joyce Johnson, for being so loving and caring.
He was preceded in death by his esteemed parents, Emar and Edolia Benoit, as well as a brother, Eddie Benoit. Joseph also mourns the loss of his sisters: Joyce Franques, Brenda Bearb, Barbara Hebert, and Junis Pommier. He leaves behind a heartfelt memory of his grandson, Justin Roche, and granddaughter, Angel Wyble, both of whom he held dear.
Family, friends, and all whose lives Joseph touched are invited to honor his memory with a rosary to be held at 12:30 p.m. followed by a visitation on January 27, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service beginning at 2:00 PM. Both events will be held at the Melancon Levingston Funeral Home in Nederland, Texas. A graveside service and interment will be held at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, Texas following the service.
As we remember Neubern Benoit, let us reflect on the proud accomplishments of a man who loved his family fiercely and lived a life dedicated to the land and those he cared about. His spirit will forever resonate with those who had the privilege of knowing him.
