Nhan Thi Hoang
1937 - 2024
On February 12, 2024, Nhan Thi Hoang passed away peacefully in her sleep after suffering a severe brain injury. She was 86 years old. Nhan was born on February 18, 1937, in Nam Dinh, North Viet Nam. In 1954, her family moved to Sai Gon, South Viet Nam to escape communism. In 1958, she married Long Thang Nguyen, and gave birth to seven daughters. In April 1975, when the war ended, her husband escaped Viet Nam by boat along with millions of refugees and landed in Guam. Nhan stayed behind to take care of her children; she worked tirelessly as a small business owner to support her family. In 1991, after 16 years, her husband sponsored her family to immigrate to Minnesota. In 1995, after four years together in the U.S.A., her husband lost his battle to cancer.
Despite her limited English, Nhan worked very hard as an assembly worker during her initial years in the United States. Following her husband's passing, she stayed home and took care of her six grandchildren. Nhan taught them basic math, reading and writing in Vietnamese, and how to live as better people each day. She loved to care for her children and grandchildren, sharing wonderful Vietnamese food, words of wisdom, and most importantly, her faith in God. She enjoyed walking in nature, tending to beautiful plants both inside and outside her house, knitting clothes for her family, and caring for her dog. She would proudly celebrate all of life's special events, from her children and grandchildren's graduations and birthdays to T t and Christmas.
Nhan is preceded in death by her husband and two daughters. Her family grieves her loss, but they take comfort knowing that Nhan, Long, Nguyet, and Huyen are together again. She is survived by five daughters - Huong, Kim Hoa, Xuan Hoa (Sokkha), Hien (Cuong), and Hanh; six grandchildren - Duy Kha, Julia (Andrew), Jalena, Bethany, Zachary, and Tobyn; and her favorite dog, Daisy.
Nhan's celebration of life will be celebrated at the Catholic Funeral Mass of Christian Burial. In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family invites those who wish to make a donation to their favorite charities.
