Memorials can be made in Nicholas' name to honor his daughter, Nicole to Comprehensive Systems Inc., P.O. Box 457, Charles City, Iowa 50616.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. The mass will be livestreamed on the Divine Mercy Parish YouTube Page. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Algona. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Oakcrest Funeral Services.
Nicholas Adam Berte was born January 31, 1940, in Algona, Iowa, the son of Nicholas and Josephine (Dentzer) Berte. He grew up in the St Joseph area and attended St Joseph School where he graduated in 1958. Following high school, he enlisted in the Army Reserve and served in the reserves through 1967.
On November 10, 1962, he was united in marriage to Nancy Willfong at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Livermore. They lived and farmed near St. Joseph and to this union they were blessed with nine children.
Nick's kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren brought him great joy and they all competed to be his favorite. He loved farming alongside his brother Alfred whom he farmed with for 40 years. He also enjoyed other activities including snowmobiling, motorcycling, golfing, playing cards and volunteering at Peps Place in Algona since 2002. Nick also had a sweet spot in his heart for the local car dealers. He was a stranger to no one and was widely known throughout the community for his sense of humor. Nicholas was a member of St Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona.
Nicholas passed away peacefully April 25, 2025, at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona surrounded by his treasured family, he was 85.
Nicholas is survived by his wife, Nancy Berte of Algona; children: Karla (Rick) Waltman of Clive, Kathryn (Kelly) Martin of Humboldt, Patrick (Nancy) Berte of Algona, Peter (Sachiko) Berte of Clarksville TN, Paul (Nancy) Berte of Pocahontas, Kristi (Jason) Helmers of Algona, Brian Berte of Eldridge, Jason Berte (Deanna) of Algona, and Nicole Berte of Charles City. Twenty-three grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; he is also survived by sister, Delores (Richard) Arndorfer of Bancroft and brother, Edmund (Mary Ann) Berte of Algona. In-laws William and Lois Bormann of West Bend, Janine Berte of Livermore of Livermore, Judy Berte of Algona and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Margaret Laubenthal, brothers, August, Adam, Charles, John, and Alfred. In-laws: Eleanor Berte, Louis Laubenthal, Dorothy Berte, Shirley Berte, Joann Berte, and Kaye Blumer.
