Nick met his future wife Colleen Hynan at a co-ed college retreat. Within American Airlines, Nick became a Check Airman and volunteered in Pilot Recruitment, Flight Assist, and Advocate Program. Nick retired from American Airlines in October 2005. Nick served as a board member and a President of Silver Stripes, an organization of retired American Airline pilots based at O'Hare Airport.
Nick loved dogs and was a five-time puppy raiser volunteer for Canine Companions for Independence. He and his dog Kiowa were also a therapy dog team visiting patients at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, IL.
Nick is survived by his wife Colleen, their daughter Suzanne Cooper (Duane), their son John (Michelle) and his five grandchildren Logan and Brynn Cooper and Caitlin, Claire and Nicholas Breheny. He is further survived by his sister Jean Breheny and various family members.

I´m so sorry to hear about Nick. We were college friends at st Ambrose, next door neighbors in the dorm. I was also at the retreat when he met Colleen. I lost track of Nick after graduation but he sure had a storied career. I thought of him today as I was heading from Kansas City up to Iowa city and passing Keokuk.. I regret not getting in touch with him over the years, he was a great guy. My thoughts are with Colleen and his family. Rip Nick

Our deepest sympathies to Colleen, Suzanne, John and family. Nick was a great neighbor with a special laugh and warm smile always. He brightened the neighborhood with his big red fire engine. A memory that will last with all of us forever. A devoted husband, dad and grandfather. May he rest in peace in our Lord´s arms.
