Nicholas Paul "Nick" DeSpirito, 90, of Freehold Township passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at The Manor Rehabilitation Center, Freehold Township. Nicholas was born, married and started his family living in Brooklyn, NY for 36 years, moved to Sayreville NJ and lived there for 30 years before moving to Freehold Township 19 years ago. Nick's work took him all over the world estimating and negotiating contracts in the power industry. He was a parishioner of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, Freehold Township. Nick began volunteering at CentraState in 2013 as a way to give back for the care provided to his wife during her six-year battle with cancer and had completed thousands of hours working with the facilities team. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather.
He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara. Nick is survived by one daughter, Deborah Alvarado and her husband, Michael of Freehold Township, NJ; two sons, Philip DeSpirito and his wife, Kathleen of Middletown, NJ and Steven DeSpirito and his wife, Jennifer of Fernandina Beach, FL; and seven grandchildren, Marisa, Nicholas, Christine and her husband, Chris, Victoria, Samantha, Madeleine and Lily.
Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Thursday, June 27, 2024 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends may gather at the funeral home on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 9:00 AM for the procession to the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township for his 10:30 AM Funeral Mass. Entombment will follow in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery, 299 Freehold Englishtown Road, Freehold. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Nick's memory may be made to American Cancer Society, 2310 Route 34, Suite 1D, Manasquan, NJ 08736.
