Nicholas (Nick) Dunec
Nicholas (Nick) Dunec, age 64, of Shelton, beloved husband of Lisa A. Fedeli-Dunec, passed away on July 28, 2025, at Grimes Center, New Haven. He was born in Millville, New Jersey, as Mykola Thor Dunec.
He was the child of Maria Jaroszewicz Dunec and Mykola Dunec. Nick's father died prior to him being born and so Nick did not know much about his father except for visiting his grave site. He was cared for by his now deceased Mother, Irene, and his Aunt Maria (newly deceased), two sisters who had left Poland in the 1950s and moved to New Jersey and then settled in Manhattan. Later in life, Nick became Guardian for his Aunt.
Nicholas grew up in Manhattan, New York. Although he was brought up by a single mother, he was able to attend Fordham University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from New York Institute of Technology in New York, New York.
Nick was affectionately known as "Nikki" to this day by his family, dear childhood friends and friends from his old neighborhood, with whom he maintained contact with throughout his life. The "Nikki" nickname was a factor in formally changing his name to Nicholas early in life.
After college, Nicholas held a career in Finance/Credit and Collections Management. Employers include ten years with GE Capital, and over 21 years with Danbury Hospital/Nuvance Healthcare, and previous employers include Pepperidge Farm, Inc., Tradesource, Inc., and Onward Healthcare. He was very experienced at recognizing a good business deal while managing a large portfolio of high at risk assets.
Nicholas had a zest for life, was very engaging with his friends and family, and was always focusing on positivity and for seeing the glass as "half full". Nick always felt he was a part of Lisa's family and truly believed that "family is family" and this was the most important thing to him. He enjoyed spending time at the gym to swim and to hang out with many friends and acquaintances he got to know through the years. Although he had no technical education, Nick enjoyed technology and gadgets to the maximum. He was always able to figure out any computer technology issues anyone may have had and enjoyed doing so.
From his childhood days, Nick loved watching the Yankees play baseball and this was his favorite team, and personally he enjoyed swimming. He also had a fascination with Metro North Railroad, that started from his childhood growing up in Manhattan.
Nicholas was married to Lisa A. (Fedeli), who now survives him. They met in 2000 and were married in 2003. He had a love for Cape Cod, Massachusetts, that carried through to visiting his in laws, Michael Fedeli and the late Constance Fedeli, there every chance he and Lisa had. Nick and his wife Lisa enjoyed taking trips to Atlantic City, Ocean City, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. After living in the North end of Bridgeport, Nick and Lisa moved to suburban Shelton, CT in 2015 and very much enjoyed being part of the community. Nick was a very loving, supportive and compassionate husband, and cherished friend for those who knew him. He had a heart of gold with the personality to match.
Many thanks to the staff at Yale New Haven, Smilow Cancer Hospital, and the staff at The Grimes Center, in New Haven, for taking such very good care of Nick throughout his courageous health journey with Glioblastoma. Donations can be made in his memory to Glioblastoma cures.
