Nicholas "Nick" Ekren passed away in Austin Texas on Sunday November 19 2017. Nick was born on March 9, 1979 in Mesa, Arizona. Nick loved life and he loved his family and friends. Nick made friends easily and if you knew Nick you liked him. He was funny, sweet and very compassionate. He would do anything for his family and friends. He had a heart as large as him. Nick will be deeply missed. He is survived by his son Travis Ekren, parents Tammie (Mike) Buckner and Steve Ekren, siblings Shawn Ekren, Jennee (Matt) Swartz, and Brian Buckner, former wife Karen Ekren, step daughter Katelyn Ekren, his grandmother Sherry Blake. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Keith.Mattern, Robert Parker and Dick Blake. Nick also leaves behind his nephew Coen and his niece Cayla, several uncles, aunts and cousins. Arrangements were handled by The Heart of Texas.

Nick was one of my 1st friends in kindergarten...grew up at Neely. I heard a few years ago he passed and I was just thinking about him. Always a kind person.

Nick, I will always remember your smile. I know you would have done anything for me. When I think of you, I see the little blonde hair, blue eye boy riding the big wheel up and down the driveway. Then I remember you growing up, and you gave me my first grandchild. I remember standing next to you at your wedding, feeling so proud. I remember holding your hand when you were sick, you cried from the pain, I cried along with you. I know you're not hurting anymore. I find comfort in that. Part of my heart died the day you left us. I have always been proud to be your mother. Until we meet again son.
