Nicholas G. Mellis, age 90, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away on March 27, 2024. He was born on the island of Chios in Greece on April 10, 1933. He is survived by his beloved wife, Stephanie. He enjoyed the love of Stephanie's son Curt (Amy) McIntosh and her grandchildren MacKenzie (Kevin), Ian, Madison, Riley and Griffin and her great granddaughter Eliose. He is predeceased by his brother James (Anna) Mellis. He is survived by his nephew George (Veronica) Mellis. Nick is also survived by his sister Mary (Peter) Angelopoulos, his niece Elaine (Stephen) Melonides and his nephew Gregory (Stacy) Angelopoulos. He had seven great nieces and nephews who admired him greatly.
Nick had an amazing life of service, joy and challenges from helping his family survive during World War II, moving to America, working, attending college and serving in the U.S. Army and at his church in Youngstown, Ohio. He joined the Department of Defense where he excelled for over three decades. Tragically losing his wife and daughter Nicole at a young age, he continued in his passion of serving his Lord and Savior through many roles at the church in the Detroit area. Before her death, Nicole introduced him to Stephanie McIntosh at that very church.
He married Stephanie and they shared a beautiful life of over 40 years, ultimately retiring to Fort Myers where they enjoyed their horses and gardening. In his later years Nick wrote two books achieving his long-time goal of sharing his experience and knowledge. He spread the Good News to everyone he met.
Services will be held at Gramer Funeral Home, Diener Chapel in Shelby Township, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024 from 10:00-11:00 AM, with his service commencing at 11:00 AM. A graveside service will follow at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a live outdoor plant for Stephanie's Michigan home.
