Nicholas Sebastian Milano passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on January 2, 2025 in Bedford, Texas. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Nick was born on December 27, 1934, in Meriden, Connecticut. He attended Mount Carmel Catholic School and Meriden High School. While in high school, he sang bass for the chorus, was a member of the dive and swim team, and was voted best dancer of his graduating class. Nick never missed a high school dance.
After graduating high school, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a radioman aboard the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Philippine Sea. He often spoke of his time in the Navy, and with a smile mentioned that his 2 years stationed in Hawaii was, "Tough Duty." After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he enrolled at Hartford University and the Ward School of Electronics. From there, he embarked on a career as a radar and flight simulator technician, which moved him and his family across many parts of the country. In 1971, he moved his family from Binghamton, New York to the Ft Worth area for the opportunity to work for American Airlines. The family settled in Hurst as Nick worked as a simulator technician until his retirement from American in 1998. Not one for sitting still, Nick worked part time at Mr C's Hardware in Hurst for many years. All through his career and in retirement, Nick made lifelong cherished friendships.
Wherever he lived, Nick's love for the outdoors never waned. As an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener, he loved sharing those experiences with his sons and dear friends. Nick was a man of many talents and hobbies. You would often find him in his wood shop, garden or yard. He was a lifetime member of the Haltom City Rifle and Pistol Club, where he established himself as an expert marksman. He was a proud member of The Knights of Columbus #7641, where he volunteered whenever needed. He was also a member of the American Legion, the NRA and the Hurst Amateur Radio Club where he taught Morse Code.
As busy as Nick kept himself, before and after retirement, he always found the time for family and friends. His door was open to anyone, especially during the holidays. He was always welcoming with a place at his table and a glass of red wine.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Annetta Milano, brother Frank Milano and wife Norma, and sister Dorothy Aresco and husband Joe.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sarah J Milano of Bedford, Texas, brother Sebastian Milano and wife Lynda of Southington, Connecticut, son Nicholas Milano Jr. and wife Patty of Barrington, New Hampshire, son Frank Milano and wife Trona of Crowley, Texas and son Gregory Milano and wife Jane of Bedford, Texas. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nick will always be remembered for his devotion to his family, service to his country, and his active involvement within the community and the church.
