Nicholas Morosco Obituary

Nicholas J. Morosco

Yorkville, NY

1986-2024

Nicholas Joseph Morosco of Yorkville passed away at the age of 38 on Tuesday August 27th, 2024 with his loving family and fellow first responders by his side. Nicholas was born on January 29th, 1986 to David J. and Chryl (Sherry) L. Morosco. Nicholas obtained his education through the Whitesboro School District and was a graduate of the Class of 2004.

Nick's life revolved around family, friends and his community. His love for food and passion for cooking began when he was by his mother's side in the kitchen as she made his favorite Mac and Cheese and his favorite Cheese Dip with Olives. As a young boy, he could be found at the Fire Station with his dad, doing electrical work with his Uncle Tom or riding around in the DPW trucks with Uncle Joe, constantly waiting to go sit on the bumper of a firetruck or assist at the pump panel at a fire. At age 9, his father pulled into the parking lot to find his son setting up Truck 1's ladder accompanied by Chief DeRosa. At that time, it was known that there would never be a task that Nick could not accomplish in the fire service. At age 16, Nick officially joined the Yorkville Fire Department as their first Junior Firefighter, although his commitment and dedication to the department began as soon as he could walk. He and his sister, Ali would play with matchbox cars and Hess Trucks in the hallways of their home, pretending they were firefighters. Nick lived and breathed every bit of being a volunteer firefighter. Nick climbed the ranks throughout his years and was serving as an Assistant Chief "Car 2" at the time of his passing. During those years, he completed countless New York State Fire courses, became a New York State and Nationally Certified Fire Investigator and a New York State and Nationally Certified Fire Instructor. He also was a New York State Certified EMT. The Yorkville Fire Department has posthumously promoted Nick to Chief of the Department as he continues his firefighting career up in heaven. He was currently employed by the Village of Yorkville Highway Department as well as the Whitesboro Central School Bus Garage. Prior to this, Nick was employed as a Dispatcher at the New Hartford Central Dispatch 911 Center from 2004-2010 and subsequently held the position of New Hartford Town Animal Control Officer until 2020. During his years in New Hartford, he also assisted the New Hartford Police Department with daily operations. No matter what agency he was representing at the time of someone's need, he did it with dedication and pride for the community that he was serving. When Nick wasn't serving his community, he loved spending time with those he was close to. He had a love for watching You Tube videos of New York City Fires, constantly critiquing, strategizing and learning new fire tactics. Due to his passion of following the FDNY, Engine 7 and Tower Ladder 13 were built. He designed those trucks and put thought into each and every detail of the apparatus and shortly before his passing, he finally had his first Code 3 run with the Tower. He had a love for a round of golf with his boys, sitting around a campfire, and sitting on a barstool at the "VP" or Venice with his crew on Friday nights. Nick shared a home in the village with the love of his life, Brittany. When they weren't having Wednesday night Date Nights together, they enjoyed spending time with their 3 dogs Scope "Dopey", Oakley "Oatey", and Maple "Borgie" as well as their cat, Morris "Jungle Kiggy".

Nick is survived by his parents, Sherry Morosco (Steve Rocci), David Morosco (Eileen Doser), Significant Other Brittany Murphy, Sister and best friend, Ali Morosco-Davis, Brother-in- Law Eric Davis, Niece Bianca Davis, Uncle Joseph Morosco (Laurie Cavoly), Aunt and Godmother Christine Morosco, Aunt Marie Morosco (Carol Trzepacz). Aunt Rose Konowalski (Robert), Uncle Larry Althoff (Tina), Aunt Patti Althoff, and Uncle Pat Summo (Sandy). He is also survived by his cousins, Hilary, Laurie, Gina, and Julie and their families. He also leaves behind his entire family at the Yorkville Fire Department, as well as so many distant relatives, fellow first responders and friends. He was predeceased by his grandparents Joseph and Jennie Morosco, Sandra Williams, and Douglas Althoff, Aunt Lauri Summo and her son PJ Summo, Uncle and Godfather Thomas Morosco, and beloved pets Greta, Max, Marley and Bell.

The family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to the family and friends who have been by their side as well as the Fire, Police and EMS agencies of this community, with a special thank you to the Yorkville Fire and Police Departments.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 3rd 2024 from 9am-12pm at Mary Mother of Our Savior Parish, Lourdes Campus, 2222 Genesee St. Utica, where His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12pm following the calling hours. Interment will be at the Holy Trinity Cemetery in Yorkville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Nicholas J. Morosco Memorial Fund of the Yorkville Fire and Hose Company to establish a fund for retention and recruitment of the brother and sisterhood of the volunteer fire service, or the Believe 271 Foundation. Arrangements are with the Dimbleby Funeral Homes Inc. 40 Main St. Whitesboro.
