Nicholas Riccio Obituary

Published by CLOSED-Simpson-Hammerl Funeral Home on Apr. 26, 2014.
Nicholas Riccio, of Glasco, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Golden Hill Health Care Center. He was 89. A native and lifelong Glasco resident, he was a son of the late John and Angelina Nero Riccio. Nick and Roselyn were married, 60 years ago, on June 14, 1953. A "Jack of all trades", Nick was a self-taught plumber, painter, builder, carpenter, electrician, mason, mechanic, and cook. Most of his career was spent working for the Lane Construction Company of Meridan, CT in a supervisory position. Many of his job sites included sections of the NYS Thruway from Saugerties to the Adirondacks, Andrews Air Force Base, MD, Westover Field Air Force Base in Springfield, MA and Stewart Air Force Base. Nick later worked for numerous local contractors. Nick was a member of the Glasco Fire Dept. for 70 years. He belonged to the Saugerties Dartball League, Glasco Rod and Gun Club and was a faithful parishioner at St. Joseph's Parish, Glasco. In his retirement, Nick could be found tinkering around the house. He lived his life with dignity and pride. If wealth was based on friendship and respect, he would be the richest man in the world. Not only did he have a sharp wit, but he also had the ability to fix anything, except our broken hearts. Loving husband of Roselyn Sisco Riccio, father of John Riccio and his wife Maria Ferraro Riccio of Saugerties, Rhonda Riccio Higby and her husband AJ Higby of Cottekill; brother of Anthony Riccio of Cohoes, Joseph Riccio of Saugerties and the late Emily Spada and Mary Snyder; grandfather of Nicholas and Joseph Riccio of Saugerties, Arthur and Ashley Higby of Cottekill. Reposing at Simpson – Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral procession will form on Friday at 8:45 a.m. from the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, Glasco at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Mary of the Snow Cemetery, Barclay Heights. Memorial contributions may be made to the Glasco Fire Company, St. Joseph's Parish – Glasco or the Alzheimer's Association.

Dear Mrs. Riccio..So sorry for the loss of your dear husband. I enjoyed seeing you visit him a Golden Hill and enjoyed your stories as you stopped to chat at the reception desk with Chelsea and me. Hope you are well...God be with you at this time and always.

I am so sorry for your loss. I did not know Nick, but I am sure John inherited so many of his wonderful traits. Rosalyn, John and Maria, just know he is at peace and you have one more up there in heaven supporting you. May your days be filled with peace and do celebrate his final reward for all he was to you and family.
