Nick Scheuring was born Nov 8, 1942, and passed peacefully away on April 11, 2025, at the age of 82. He was a husband, a father, a papa, a son, a brother, a teacher, and a friend. Nick grew up in Beresford, South Dakota, served in the Army, and then went to college where he was entranced by his best friend and bride of 57 years, Eunice. Their life was filled with adventure, joy, laughter, and most of all, love. Together they raised Jason, Matthew, and Erika in Ballantine, Montana, where Nick was a teacher and Junior High principal at the Huntley Project Schools. He enjoyed working with the kids, as teaching and helping others was a calling for him. After 30 years teaching and helping middle school kids, he retired and continued teaching as a snowboard instructor at Red Lodge Mountain.
He truly lived life to the fullest; in his 50s, Nick began paragliding, and people may also recall him rollerblading down Ballantine hill as soon as the gravel was off the road. In the mountains, he enjoyed hiking, camping, rock climbing, and most of all snowboarding. Once Eunice retired from being an accountant for Indian Health Services, they moved to Bridger, Montana, to be closer to the mountains they loved, the Beartooth and the Pryor mountains. Eventually, Nick and Uko moved closer to their older son north of Spokane, Washington, where Nick decided to try farming with Jason on their property in Deer Park. Once Nick and Uko were closer to Jamel and Jason, they couldnt resist playing partner pinochle almost every weekend. That was not a game for the faint of heart, especially when they played husbands versus wives! If there is anything to remember about him, it is that Nick loved interactions with family and friends! In Pinochle terms, hed say that tricks or no tricks, its participation that is important.
Nick is the last of his family to depart earth for heaven; as the youngest, little Nicky was preceded by his parents Nicholas and Genivieve along with his sisters Anita, Corrine, Mary, and Rita. He is survived by his beautiful wife, Eunice Scheuring, along with Jason (Jamel) Scheuring, Matt Scheuring with his daughter Sophie, and Erika Scheuring with her daughters, Cora, Isabelle, and Ruthie. All will continue to play cards and live lives with joy having had this wonderful man of a husband, father, teacher, friend, and papa to fill our memories.
July 19th, 2025, the family will be hosting a Celebration of Life back in his home community of Huntley Project Montana at the Homesteader Hall at 1pm, followed by Nicks favorite, cookies and coffee.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Ballantine MT UCC Food Bank, or your local food bank, in Nicks name.
