Nicholas Michael Spanos of Plymouth, MA passed away peacefully at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth on April 5, 2025, at the age of ninety-four.
He was the beloved husband of the late Johanna (Aspromigos) Spanos and the loving father of Artemis Anderson of Joliet, Illinois; Phyllis Westcott and her husband David of Plymouth; and Van Spanos and his wife Litsa of Cincinnati, Ohio. He leaves behind six cherished grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Nicholas was born on August 12, 1930, in Orlando, Florida, to the late Michael Peter and Felothea (Pouletsos) Spanos of Paleta, Greece. He attended high school in Suffern, New York, and upon graduation, proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. His service earned him the Korean Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan.
Inspired by his experiences abroad, Nicholas pursued higher education at the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned a degree in Geological Engineering. His career in the coal and steel industry reflected both his intellect and dedication.
Nicholas was a man of many talents and passions. He loved gardening and had an uncanny ability to do nearly anything. In his later years, he taught himself to crochet and became well-known for his beautifully crafted Irish blankets, which he joyfully shared with loved ones.
Affectionately known as "PaPou," Nicholas was a man of deep kindness, quiet wisdom, and unwavering faith. He had an extraordinary gift for seeing the good in people, listening without judgment, and offering support with a gentle heart. He lived his Christian values daily and will be remembered always for his humility, compassion, and warmth.
Nicholas will be laid to rest on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Sunset Memorial Park in South Charleston, West Virginia with Father Isaac Williams officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nicholas's memory to the National Kidney Foundation, 209 W. Central Street, Natick, MA 01760, or at www.kidney.org.
He will be dearly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
