Michael J. Umano, age 66, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was the devoted husband of Lauren A. (Butler) Umano.

Born in Somerville on January 24, 1959, Michael was the son of Salvatore Umano and the late Shirley (Hogan) Umano of Plymouth. He grew up in Brockton, where he enjoyed playing Little League baseball, street hockey and tag football. He attended Cardinal Spellman High School before continuing on to Stonehill College, graduating with a BS in Accounting. Michael began his career with Apparel Retail Corporation before joining Industrial Communications in 1991. Beginning his 34-year career at Industrial as Corporate Controller, he advanced to President in 2011. His vision and unwavering dedication helped the company grow into the success it is today.

Michael was the loving father of Joseph S. Umano and his wife Ashley of Olympia, WA; Thomas P. Umano and his wife Alycia of Plymouth; and Catherine E. Umano of Nashville, TN. He was the cherished grandfather of Brynn and Mila. He was also the proud stepfather of Daniel Fitzgerald and his wife Jessica of Revere, and Nicole Rockett and her husband Daniel of Hanson, and beloved step-grandfather of Aiden, Andrew, Caleb, Gage, Daniel, and Connor.

Michael is survived by his eight siblings; John Umano and his wife Jeanne of Whitman; Mary Federico of Plainville; Paul Umano and his wife Biagina of Brockton; Robert Umano of Plymouth; Donna McClellan and her husband Scott of Plymouth; Nancy Berry and her husband Tom of Plymouth; Paula Scarsciotti and her husband Rick of Wrentham; and Joseph Umano and his wife Julie of Weymouth. In addition, he was a loving uncle to numerous nieces & nephews.

Above all else, Michael was a dedicated family man. His three children were his greatest joy and accomplishment. Grandpa Mike, aka "Granka", attended many cheerleading competitions and football games to support his grandkids, and had many laughs with them playing Heads Up. He loved family trips to Sebago Lake, attending rock concerts, and spending time outdoors. Whether it was golfing, playing pickleball with Lauren, biking, or walking along the beach, Michael enjoyed life fully. He and Lauren loved to travel and enjoyed many sunny destinations.

Michael will be remembered always for his kindness, generosity, and love for his family and friends. He was often the person that his family would turn to for sound advice, always laced with a touch of humor. Michael took great pride in both his personal and work accomplishments, as well as being a source of encouragement for others.

A visitation will be held at the Cartmell-Davis Funeral Home, 373 Court St. (NORTH), Plymouth, on Tuesday, August 26th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated the following day at St. Peter's Church, Plymouth, at 10:30 a.m.

Such a sad loss. I had the pleasure of meeting Mike as a class mate at Stonehill College. He was a great man , intelligent and witty. He was also my brother“s next door neighbor for many years in Plymouth. They were good friends and worked out together often lifting weights,

God bless him as he enters Heaven and is reunited with his Mom, and God bless the entire Umano family. Amen.

I had the privilege of being friends with Mike since we were freshmen at Cardinal Spellman. We became best friends by the time we were seniors. The adventures we shared as young men are forever ingrained in me. Our friendship endured all our years. Mike (Sal) his nickname after his dad was extraordinary man whose presence in your life made it better. His value system was second to no one. Mike stood by you in the best and worst of times. He lived his life with honor and was intelligent, funny, caring, loyal, kind, and loving. He cared most about his family as a husband, father and grandfather and loved being home most of all. I will miss my friend greatly who I loved dearly. Heaven just got itself one of our very best, far sooner then we all wanted.

With love and remembrance,

Michael Nickley
