Phyllis Murnaghan Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 20, 2025.
Phyllis A. Murnaghan, age 90, of Plymouth, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 20th, at the Life Care Center in Plymouth. She was the devoted wife of the late Charles F. Murnaghan, Jr. Loving mother of Charles Murnaghan III, James Murnaghan, and Laura Richmond. Cherished grandmother of Jamie Murnaghan, Erin Murnaghan, Alex Richmond, Sarah Richmond, Charles Murnaghan, and Michael Murnaghan. Sister of Larry Elliott of Wisconsin. She is also survived by John McCarthy, a dear friend who was like a son to her.

Born in Brighton, MA on October 26, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Lillian (Purdy) Elliott. Plymouth became her lifelong home, where she raised her family and built a life rooted in care and community. Phyllis's compassionate spirit led her to her calling as a nurse's aide at Jordan Hospital and Plymouth County Hospital. She had a deep love for her town, and the Plymouth waterfront was her most treasured place. She found her greatest peace sitting by the harbor with a hot cup of coffee, watching the boats and activity of the sea.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Phyllis's memory may be made to the Jordan Hospital Club, BID Plymouth (275 Sandwich St, Plymouth, MA 02360), or to a charity of your choice.
