Helen Umano Obituary
Beacon, NY - Helen Jean Umano, 92, a former resident of Beacon and recently of Poughkeepsie, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2021 at The Pines at Poughkeepsie Nursing Facility. She was born on December 29, 1928 in Jersey City, NJ, daughter of the late Edgar & Myrta (Dolson) Van Auken.
Helen acquired a Master's Degree in Nursing, and worked for several years as a Register Nurse at St. Luke's Hospital in New York, NY; where she also worked as a speech pathologist, until she retired.
Helen was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Beacon; she was an avid reader, and loved to crochet.
Helen is survived by her sister Myrna L. Corley of Florida, and her niece and nephew Cheryl Vitale and Howard G. Corley; along with 2 great nieces, 2 great nephews, 1 great-great nephew & 2 great-great niece. She is also survived by her dear many friends, especially Ellen, Ella & Janet. Along with her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Christopher Umano and sister, Doris Van Auken.
Her Family & Friends will gather to remember Helen on Sunday, August 8th from 5-7pm at the LIBBY FUNERAL HOME, 55 Teller Avenue, Beacon, NY. A Funeral Service will be held 11AM, Monday, August 9th at the First Presbyterian Church, 50 Liberty Street, Beacon, followed by burial in the Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Fishkill, NY.
