Nicholas Topalis

Norwich - Nicholas (Nick) Topalis, 95, of Norwich passed away peacefully at his home on January 30, 2026. He was born on September 9, 1930, in Norwich, Connecticut and was the son of Zaffirios and Marianthy (Kokinis) Topalis.

Nick married his wife of 71 years, Pauline (Forbotko) Topalis on June 26, 1954. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by a son, David (Karen) Topalis of Simsbury and daughter, Elaine Topalis of Mystic. In addition to his immediate family, Nick is survived by five grandchildren, Nicole (Joshua) Serra, Andrea (Daniel) Fenton, Jennifer Lafayette and her partner Ryan Bottorff, Michael Topalis and his partner Megan Ohtani, and Dr. Kathryn (Dr. Devin Bageac) Topalis, and four great-grandchildren, Addison, Nolan, Connor and Eliza. Also, Nick was the last of seven children to survive. He is predeceased by his siblings, Penelope Andriote, Peter Topalis, Viola Trantalis, John Topalis, Irene McMahon and Gregory Topalis, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Nick attended the Norwich Free Academy. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving in Japan. While he was in Japan, his job was to monitor Russia in detecting nuclear fallout. After his time in the Air Force, he was employed by the State of Connecticut.

Nick was an avid golfer and was a member of the Norwich Golf Course for over 50 years. He loved to travel with his wife and over the years visited several European countries. He was a devoted member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Norwich.

A calling hour will be held on Friday, February 6 at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 247 Washington St, Norwich from 10:00 am to 11:00 am followed by a service at 11:00 am. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery.
