She was born in Holguin, Cuba on January 29th, 1940, to parents Hector Rojas and Josefa Freijoso. Nilda spent the first 26 years of her life in Cuba and then the remaining 59 years in the United States. Nilda married Rafael Sondon on February 14th, 1962. She was very proud of her Cuban heritage and passed that down to all who carry on her legacy.
Nilda worked tirelessly in her role as the matriarch of her family. She was tough and unrelenting in her actions to do what was best for her loved ones, but kind, warm, and affectionate to all those she cared for. Nilda's passion came out through her love of music when she would serenade those around her and through her cooking which her whole family enjoyed.
