Noah Allen Laird, a beloved father, devoted grandfather, and legendary storyteller of
Oakdale, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at 91 years old. Born on August 16, 1934, Noah lived a life defined by his immense love for family and his unparalleled passion for deer hunting with his hounds. For decades, he was a familiar figure in the woods during hunting season and possessed a vast library of hunting adventures. Even in his later years, he never tired of sharing his lively tales. While at Allen Oaks Nursing Home, he enjoyed spending time weaving colorful potholders to share with family and staff-and even tossed some to the crowd during a Christmas parade. Noah was the loving husband of the late Ertha Lee (Coker) Laird for 70 years-a bond that was the foundation of his life. They shared a love that every couple dreams of. He was widely known for his generous heart and willingness to help anyone in need. He always made time for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, teaching them simple yet timeless lessons: how to hammer a nail, use a drill, or how to draw the infamous squiggly swan. He was always willing to peel an apple, cut up a slice of spam, turkey ham, or good ol' box cheese, or make a perfect peanut butter and jelly sandwich. He often joined them for an afternoon nap, creating memories that will be cherished forever. His hearty breakfasts-piled high with bacon, sausage, eggs, and the biggest ever pile of pancakes-will be remembered fondly by all who gathered at his table. Professionally, Noah was a proud retiree of the Louisiana Department of Transportation after 25 years of service. He was known for his carpentry skills, building everything from houses and barns to cabinets and more.
Those left to cherish Noah's memory include his daughter, Janet Lee McDaniel of Plainview, LA, his son, Dana Allen Laird and wife Judy of
Oakdale, LA, and his brother, Wayne Laird and wife Francis of
Oakdale, LA. His rich legacy continues through nine cherished grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-granddaughters.
Noah is preceded in death by his parents, Chris, and Ellen Laird; his wife, Ertha Lee Laird; his son-in-law, William McDaniel; his brothers, John, and Alvin Laird; his sisters, Annie Mae Kertz, Louise Johnson, Eloise Quave, and Joyce Nell Reeves; and his great-grandson, Christian Blue Jordan.
Pallbearers honored to serve are Ethan Manuel, Noah Hyatt, Caden Manuel, James Manuel, Trever Serpas, and Ellis Quave Jr. Honorary Pallbearers serving are Blu Jordan, TJ Hyatt, Darnell Johnson, and Miguel Cahilog.
