Nolan Brim Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ewton Funeral Home & Cremation Center on Jan. 14, 2026.
Nolan Ray Brim was born in Mitchell, Indiana, on April 15, 1936. He was the son of Noble and Gladys Hickman and the eighth of ten children. As a young adult he moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, where he met his wife, Irene Durham. They were married on May 25, 1956, and raised their family together in Indianapolis. Nolan and Irene were married for 69 years.

Nolan spent his working career as an employee of Kroger Dairy, which later became Crossroads Farms and was the biggest dairy processing plant in the world. Nolan was a dedicated employee and performed many different tasks including bottling milk, making cottage cheese, and making ice cream. He was a hard worker and was proud of the work he did. He and Irene retired in 1997 and moved to Dunlap, Tennessee.

In Indianapolis Nolan and Irene were faithful members of Burge Terrace Baptist Church, where he was baptized. He served as an usher and a greeter, perfect roles for the social person he was. When they moved to Tennessee they became members of Mile Straight Baptist Church in Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, where he once again served as a greeter and participated in many of their ministries.

Nolan loved having a garden, and he was never happier than when he was sitting on a tractor. He loved sharing his harvest with others. He and Irene put up lots of corn and green beans that were eaten with great appreciation at the many family dinners and celebrations they hosted in their home over the years.

The last year of his life was spent at Valley View Assisted Living in Whitwell, Tennessee. He made many friends there and was a favorite among the staff. He loved to make people laugh and his smile was infectious. His family will be forever grateful for the tangible love and excellent care he and Irene received in this facility.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene. He is survived by daughters Pam (Phil) Kiper and Penny (David) Winget, all of Dunlap, Tennessee, daughter Nancy (Rick) Couch of Orange Beach, Florida, and son Ray (Pattie) Brim of Denver, Colorado.

He was very proud of his grandchildren: Kathryn (Brandon Germany) Kiper, Will (Cassidy) Kiper, Jenny (Jim) Weisert, Rachele (Kris) Bruu, Ben Brim, Joe (Meghan) Brim, Rayanne (Zach) Del Hierro, Nathanael (Bethany) Winget, Andy (Cara) Winget, Rebbekkah (Harley) Blanton, Katie Couch.

He has also left behind a host of great grandchildren, many who will never know him but will nonetheless continue his legacy of hard work and faithfulness.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Ewton Funeral Home & Cremation Center with burial to follow in Old Union Cemetery. Family will receive friends Friday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Saturday from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM.

Nolan and Irene went to church with me at Mile Straight Baptist Church. Nolan was a happy, friendly person and always came up and shook my hand. He was a blessing to our congregation and made everyone feel welcome. My condolences go to his family. I know you will miss him and we will miss him, too.
