Verna Mae Smith

Verna Mae Bailey Smith, age 93 of Chattanooga TN passed away Friday, February 28, 2026 at the Soddy Daisy Health Care Center. She was a member of the church of Christ. She married J.B. Smith in 1952 and they lived in Tennessee until 1956 when they moved to Detroit MI where they raised two children. Verna returned to Tennessee in 1987 after her husband's death in 1983. She loved her family dearly always wanting to be with them when she could. She loved to crochet, do word search and puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Smith; parents, Benny Arthur Bailey and Verna Mae Boyd and her brother, E.W. Bailey.

She is survived by her children, Pat and Bob Sparks of Taylor MI and Tim and Mary Smith of Soddy Daisy TN; 10 grandchildren, Chris and Jennifer, Josh and Laura, Jeremy and Jennifer, Cory and Emily, Tyler and Mya; 8 great grandchildren, Brendan, Dylan and Julie, Riley, Gregory, Derek, Jacob and Rozalynn; sisters -in- law, Shirley Jackson of Hixson TN and Lila Brady of Pikeville TN and a bunch of nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Ewton Funeral Home & Cremation Center with burial to follow in Collier Cemetery. Family will receive friends Wednesday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
