Anna Carole Smith

She entered this world as Anna Carole DeArmond on May 18, 1941 in Levelland, Texas. She left it from her home in Denison, Texas as Granny on March 2, 2026. She packed a ton of living into the 84 years in between. She barreled through the streets of Levelland with her hair on fire until David Ray Smith stole her heart and married her on December 28, 1956. They shared homes in other places but remained side by side until she went to wait for him in their ultimate home alongside the Lord.

She enjoyed painting, loved birds, and was an avid reader, but nothing energized her like her family did. Her 4 kids and their spouses-David W. Smith (Kathy), Mark A. Smith (Patricia), Kenneth R. Smith (Helen), and Laura S. Fontaine (Barry), along with 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren all shared one very special privilege. That privilege was an open invitation to a door that was never locked to catch a meal, watch a cartoon, or play the day away. Smithville, as it was called, was a magical place to be a kid, and she was the quiet, (well, not always quiet) hostess that kept it going.

A little over a year ago she faced tough medical news that brought a heightened awareness that she would face death. As one would expect, there were moments of fear, but a virtually unwavering, calm assurance in her that she would enjoy a wonderful eternity provided to her by the sacrifice of the God she loved. Many hearts are simultaneously hurting and rejoicing knowing that she no longer hurts.

We miss you, Granny!

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at Cedarlawn Memorial Park, in Sherman, TX, with Pastor Steve Rice officiating.
