Nona Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Eggers Funeral Home - Boiling Springs on Feb. 18, 2026.
Nona Elizabeth "Lib" Allen Smith, a beacon of unwavering love and strength for over 90 years, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, leaving behind a legacy woven in devotion, sacrifice, and faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Lib's life was a testament to selfless service to many people throughout her lifetime. She worked at Butte Knitting Mills for many years and managed the restaurant known as Jimmy's, located across the street from the hospital. The majority of her time was spent in nurturing her family.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, the Reverend Paul D. Smith, with whom she shared more than fifty years of marriage rooted in love and shared faith in Christ. Together, they walked hand in hand through life's joys and trials, their bond, a shining example of enduring commitment. She was also predeceased by 11 brothers and sisters, as well as her young grandson, Travis Smith.

Above all, Lib was a loving mother whose heart knew no bounds. She poured out unconditional love upon her three cherished children: Steve Smith (Pearlie), Keith Smith (Robin), and Regina Edge (Pastor Mitch), making countless sacrifices to nurture their dreams and guide their paths. Her family was her greatest joy. She is survived by her dear sister, Barbara Stacey of Augusta, Georgia; and her sister-in-law, Ann Allen, Spartanburg S.C who she loved.

To all of her grandchildren, Lib was simply called, "MA" meaning mother, a gift from God and she has been a treasured gift. Lib (Ma) has eight grandchildren: Keven Smith (Tabitha), Brian Smith, Bronson Smith (Amy), Jeremy Smith (Heather), Ashley Chalk (Scott), Mitch Paul Edge (Noemi), Krisi Burnette (Colby), and Travis Smith (predeceased); sixteen great-grandchildren: Noah Smith, Zoey Smith, Layla Smith, Griffin Smith, Isaac Smith, Eva Smith, Kaleb Smith, Dalton Smith, Carter Smith, and Sophie Smith, Cohen Chalk, Cole Burnette, Millie Reese Burnette, Carolina Burnette, Elena Edge, Axel Edge, and two great-great-grandchildren: Lucas Smith and Claire Elizabeth Smith, her great great grandaughter, who lit up her world every time she saw her. Each grandchild, from the oldest to the youngest, was deeply important to her. She cherished the moments spent with them and helped raise many while their parents worked, with Cohen being the last one she cared for in her home. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Lib's life was deeply anchored in her faithful love for Jesus Christ. She served Him with humility and grace, finding solace in prayer and strength in scripture. For many years past, she was a member of Una Free Will Baptist where daddy preached along side Preacher Kenneth and her devotion inspired all who knew her, reminding us that true richness lies in the love we give and the faith we hold. Her legacy is one of unconditional giving, making everyone feel welcomed in her presence and welcomed in her home as she would cook Sunday meals for all who wanted to come. Momma and Daddy were unique and understood true service and power of God.

In Momma's memory, we celebrate a woman whose laughter filled rooms, whose hugs healed hearts, and whose unfailing love will bloom in the lives she touched by the wisdom and knowledge that she poured into our lives. She now rejoices for eternity, reunited with her husband, Paul, grandson Travis, brothers, sisters, and many loved ones and friends.

The final five years, Momma's mobility was limited where she became confined to her bed and enjoyed the visits of her children and her grandchildren; however, her spunky attitude, laughter and zeal for life continued even though her memory began to fade. She never forgot Jesus and this reflects how personal her relationship has been over these final years. In a world that has forgotten, Momma understood the foundation of her faith, it was a simple commitment to apply the word of God to her daily walk. Momma loved the daughter-in-laws, Pearlie and Robin as much as she loved her daughter Regina. Pastor Mitch was as much a son to her as her own two boys Steve and Keith. She loved all equally. For years, the children have shared and pulled together to care for a gem of a woman whose value is far above anything this world can offer. She has been the cornerstone of the family and is missed already.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:45 PM on Friday, February 20, 2026, in the Eggers Funeral Home Chapel of Boiling Springs, officiated by Pastor Mitch Edge and Rev. Kenneth Cash where all are welcome to honor our Momma that we have dearly loved and cherished.

The family will receive friends Friday at the funeral home from 11:30 AM until 1:30 PM prior to the service at 1:45 PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, Ralph Sexton Ministries, Asheville, SRHS Hospice. On behalf of our families, thank you to all for your kindness, love and support to our families.
