Nora T. Nelson, age 70, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026, surrounded by her children and their spouses. She is leaving behind a world made significantly brighter by her presence.
Nora loved being a Nelson. She was born and raised in Pelham Manor, New York and was one of six children. She always gushed about the eldest Nelson boys – Peter, Michael, and Drew - and how handsome, charismatic, and successful they were. She cherished her sister Sarah for her love, support, and genuine friendship. And her younger brother William was Nora’s lifelong confidant.
Nora built a life dedicated to the care of others. She graduated from Boston University School of Nursing (1977) and held roles as a school nurse, a hospice nurse, and as an advocate for victims of domestic violence. She was a rare soul defined by deep empathy and an uncanny ability to connect with anyone she met. She moved through life without judgment, offering a sense of home to everyone from hospice patients and the homeless to toddlers and to even the most guarded adolescents. To be in Nora’s company was to feel seen, understood, and entirely….comfortable.
Beyond her kindness, Nora was simply fun. She possessed a gifted sense of humor and an outgoing spirit that made moments feel light and easy. She was a natural extrovert that could disarm any social setting. If you were lucky, you got a chance to witness Nora flashing her water-skiing talents on Lake Cobbossee in Maine.
Above all, Nora’s superpower in life was being a mother. She raised two children, Ryan Tiffany and Michaela Tiffany, and laid a foundation for them built on comfort, safety, laughter, and unconditional love. Nora didn’t pay much attention to report cards or athletic success or social status; she just led with an abundance of love and let the rest figure itself out. Michaela and Ryan remain eternally grateful for the way Nora championed them and instilled in them a deep sense of worth.
Nora’s legacy of warmth continues through her four grandchildren: Anna Fitzgerald, Liam Fitzgerald, Dylan Tiffany, and Tyler Tiffany, all of whom she adored. She was preceded in death by her mother, Olive Nelson and her father, William Nelson.
