Norbert Hornek Obituary

Norbert John Hornek, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the age of 90. Born on July 24, 1935, in Louisville, Kentucky. Norbert lived a life rich with purpose, devotion, and unwavering love for his family and faith.

A dedicated salesman in the dairy industry, Norbert's professional journey included notable tenures with Kraft and Prairie Dairy Farm. His charisma and commitment made him a respected figure in his field. Yet, it is perhaps his contributions beyond the workplace that paint a truer portrait of the man he was. A faithful member of both St. Mark Catholic Church and St. Jude’s Catholic Church, Norbert found profound joy and fulfillment in volunteering at the St. Vincent dePaul Society Food Pantry and Beggars for the Poor. His charitable works reflected a spirit that never shied away from serving others.

A proud veteran, Norbert faithfully served in the U.S. Navy Reserves for eight years, a testament to his character and dedication to his country. It was during these formative years that he developed a sense of discipline and respect that would carry throughout his life.

Norbert cherished his family above all else. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Lynne Smith Hornek, and their children: Mark (Melissa), Daniel (Amy), Terri (Mike) Rogier, Alan (Stephanie), James (Tammy), and Michael (Amy) Hornek. His legacy is beautifully carried on through their 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, each of whom embodies a piece of his vibrant spirit and values.

Among his proudest accomplishments was his mission to spread and educate the Divine Mercy of Christ. He passionately gave rosaries to 191 countrymen and 1,666 dioceses, deeply touching the lives of many with his devout faith. Norbert also penned his insights and spiritual reflections in his book "Quotes and Miracles of Jesus Christ," a work that continues to inspire those on their faith journeys.

Norbert was predeceased by his parents, John S. and Marie C. (Hohmann) Hornek, as well as two sisters and three brothers, who surely welcomed him back with open arms.

As we remember Norbert John Hornek, let us do so with gratitude for a life well-lived-one marked by compassion, faith, and an indomitable love for family. The impact of his kindness and service will echo in the hearts of many, and his unwavering spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 PM at St. Mark Catholic Church, located at 535 E. Edgewood Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46227. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Let us gather to celebrate the remarkable life of Norbert Hornek, whose presence will forever be cherished in our memories.
