Norbert W. Korff

Norbert Walter Korff, a lifetime resident of Schenectady, died after a short illness at 87 years of age. Norm graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1956. He was loved by an extended family of stepchildren, cousins, second cousins, niece, nephews and friends.
In his youth he held jobs ranging from operating the rides at Kaydeross Park in Saratoga, to temporary help at the post office, to delivering coal for an Uncle's coal company and to working at King Cadillac.
He then reassessed his youth and attended a computer training institution in the days when programming meant hard wiring logic boards. He later worked as a programmer and computer analyst for the Watervliet Arsenal, Finserv Computer Corporation and then Davis Vision until his retirement.
Norm loved cars, especially Oldsmobiles, his first being a 1951 model, followed by a bright red 1958 convertible, and a 1962 Starfire convertible. He said driving them made him feel alive. He would sometimes go for a ride in the winter with the top down to emphasize the point.
Norm met his first wife, Helen Lazzaro, while working at the Watervliet Arsenal. This is when he assumed the role as father to his stepchildren, Lisa, Gregg and James.
Norm later met the love of his life, his second wife, Rosemary (Richter) Korff. They enjoyed many years of RV'ing in the Adirondacks and Maine. They were sometimes joined by Rosemary's daughter, Christine and her husband, Dominic. Both Norm and Rosemary loved watching thoroughbred horse racing and making the occasional wager. They made frequent trips to the Saratoga race track. They spent over 40 years together, always being there for one another.
Norm was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Catherine (Przybylski) Korff. He is survived by his wife Rosemary, brother Joseph Korff (Mary), his stepchildren Christine (Dominic) Sciaudone, Lisa Lazzaro (Robert Ward), Gregg (Maria) Lazzaro and James (Teresa) Lazzaro, niece Penelope Korff, and nephews Christopher Korff, Jason Korff, Geoffrey Korff and Mark Korff.
