Norberto "Bert" C. Eisma, age 79, resident of
Dublin, CA, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025. He went to be with the Lord in his heavenly home, with his loving family surrounding his bedside.
Bert was born on August 23, 1945, in Santo Tomas, La Union, Philippines, the son of Rufino Villanueva Eisma and Dionisia C. Eisma. Bert was the second eldest of six siblings: Rosalyn (Salvador) Milan, Alex (Rosita) Eisma, Lawrence (Marie) Eisma, Alicia (Tony) Castanares, and Vince (Donna) Eisma. He was preceded in death by his father, Rufino; mother, Dionisia; brother, Lawrence Eisma; and brother-in-law, Salvador Milan.
Bert was born and raised in the Philippines. Bert's father, Rufino, was a United States Army Philippine Scout. Rufino was the third Military Police Battalion. The Philippine Scouts were a group of elite US Army soldiers who fought America's first major ground battle of World War II. Rufino's military service gave Bert and the family the opportunity to immigrate to the United States. At 21 years old, Bert came to the United States with his father in 1967 but returned to the Philippines to get married. Bert fell in love at first sight with Remedios Lachica Quesada and they got married on March 14, 1971, at the Church of San Pedro Bautista in Quezon City. They moved from the Philippines to the United States on June 16, 1971. Norberto and Remedios (Bert and Remy) were happily married for 53 years. They raised two children together: their son, Gilbert, and daughter, Kathryn.
Bert will be remembered for being a wonderful and beloved husband, father, son, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend. He loved karaoke singing, Elvis, Manny Pacquiao, cooking, karate, and watching the Golden State Warriors basketball games, but his number one love was his family. Bert always worked two jobs to support his family. He also enjoyed spending time in his yard, gardening, and going to the casino. He was happiest caring for his home, family, and grandchildren while they were growing up.
Bert is survived by his loving wife, Remedios Eisma; children, Gilbert Quesada Eisma and Kathryn Eisma Castro; son-in-law, Dimitri Castro; and grandchildren, Shayna Eisma and Dimitri Jr., Kianna, Kayla, and Donovan Castro; as well as four of Bert's siblings, cousins, many nieces and nephews, and friends.
Bert was admirably strong through battling prostate cancer. Though he may no longer be with us, Bert's spirit, smile, and love will continue to shine bright in our hearts forever. He was a quiet man with the biggest heart. He is now with our Lord, watching over us from above. Bert will be laid to rest in peace. Psalm 23:6 says, "... and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
Service will be held on January 17, 2025, at St. Michael Catholic Church, 458 Maple St, Livermore, CA 94550. The viewing will begin at 10 AM and the mass will begin at 12 PM. The burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery, 1240 N Livermore Ave, Livermore, CA 94551.
